I used to buy very cheap bagged sugar in Corinto and Bluefields to carry to Haiti in the late 80s. Their 110lb bags were about 30% below world market and .....2 dollars of every bag went to a Panamanian account which was rumoured to be controlled by Danny and Umberto....both Fakirs...they ruined that poor country....at least even with Somoza there was some semblence of a middle class.

"no estes tan conciso conmigo..." The real joke is that if the "%^&*" marxists claimed that the election was too close to call and wanted recounts, the leftside over here would be beside themselves giving them the benefit of the doubt. And if the reds stole it outright, the NYT would dub it a free and fair election.

The real irony to all this is that Jimmy Carter...the same idiot who betrayed Somoza and handed over Nicaragua to the Ortegas and Co. was there for this new election as a "neutral observer"......what a pompous arse he is!!!!

I'd say that Daniel and Umberto were mouthpiece commies....
The real bogeyman of the Sandinistas was the academia fixture....Tomas Borge....the Beria of the Sandinistas.

Happy, happy, happy!
And double times triple happy because the US liberal press really expected (read: wanted) Ortega to win...

The Nicaraguans are a hell of a lot smarter than the Venezuelans.

Well, all over Latin America we've seen the advent of democratic governments. What can we expect? Only Cuba remains in the enemy camp.

Sorry, but Venezuela (under the leadership of Chavez) is speedily moving in that direction.

And still, those on the left haul out "The Contras" when they talk about President Reagan as if the Contras were the bad guys and the Sandanistas were the good guys. Some people never learn...
To: kattracks
I thought Ortega was the liberal commie ticket!

This sandinista scum sexually molested his daughter from the time she was nine years old. A typical communist, perverted to the core. He should be serving time in prison for his crimes against his daughter, and his many crimes against the people of Nicaragua.

A sad day for the left. It does show that, for all their poverty and lack of high tech schools, the Nicaraguans are a pretty savy people.
