CNN just reported at 10:30 a.m. EST that US Marines boarded an Iraq oil tanker and based on what was found on the tanker, deliberately sank the tanker. Two US Marines are missing. There was a grahic at the bottom of the screen that stated the same thing, but now they are interviewing some politician about congressional matters. Did anyone else see this report?

I believe they have been under contract with CNN. They reported the B-52 fighter jet being shot down as well as the Taliban fighting to the last man.

US Marines Board Iraq Tanker and Sink It Completely incorrect misinformation.
I was watching CNN the whole morning and never once heard did they say ANYTHING about the Marines sinking the ship. They reported an overloaded ship sank, not that the Marines sunk it.
OldFriend is 1,000% right. Before we post incorrect information in (especially in the title of the post) we should have our sh*t together.

"There was no incident, no hostile incident at sea, but rather, when American sailors boarded to check out the cargo, the ship sank," National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice said on CNN's Late Edition. "It may have been weather-related, it may have been overloaded, but we have no reason to believe it was a hostile incident of any kind." This is really weird, I don't think I believe this story. I mean COME ON! Two American sailors board a Iraqi ship(and why two sailors? shouldn't they have been Marines?) and then it just happens to SINK???
Uh huh, RIGHT! Maybe this is a prelude to war?
To: Peach
It might be that the tanker's crew scuttled the ship to prevent the marines from discovering something aboard.

More in line with the "fortunes of war".

FOX is reporting that the cause of the sinking is "unknown".

Get your facts straight, AAABEST. There is no such thing as 1,000%.

FWIW, just a little info. The Peterson is a Spruance Destroyer and does not normally carry Marines. I was a part of the boarding parties in the Gulf several moons ago and I can tell you that the only personnel we carried were the ship's boarding team (Sailors) and a Law Enforcement Detachment (Coast Guard). The ship I was attached to was a "Gator Freighter" (troop transport to those in Palm Beach County) and we did not carry Marines on the boarding team. Not only that, it would not suprise me that the iraqis scuttled the ship to kill Sailors but to also put US in a bad light with the world; you know that whole our people are starving and we need to feed them crap.
God bless the crew of the USS Peterson (DD-969) and the families of those missing.

I knew some sailors who had to do boardings. They said alot of the ships they'd board were barely seaworthy.
Prayers for those still missing.

I'm surprised that Dan Rather finds this story newsworthy enough to report.

According to FOX news, Marines boarded the tanker to search it. I did sink, and two marines are missing, BUT...I repeat BUT...the reason the tanker sank is UNKNOWN. I find it hard to believe the MARINES would have sunk a tanker WHICH THEY WERE ABOARD, thus killing some of themselves.
Suicide sinking is something terrorists would do, not Americans.

Thank you. I'm quite sure I heard that Marines sank the ship and was so stunned that I sat for a few minutes and continued to listen and read the graphics. It's possible I was wrong and if so, mea culpa. I still maintain that Freepers are incorrect in their reporting less often than CNN. Now we're leaving for a day of football watching with family; I'll expect to hear more nasty-grams from usually kind Freepers when I return this evening.
