Living just east of Astoria, I think I remember that one, but then again there have been so many of them.

Is that diner still there, under the el? What's it called, the Neptune? Dang, my memory's going after lo these many years. I remember a lot of good, inexpensive Greek restaurants, and wholesale bakery places where you could get good baklava on the cheap. Is the neighborhood still the same?

the place is situated at the foot of an extremely tall MOUNTAIN

PoorMuttly- laboring under the misapprehension that anyplace in the houston area has anything that could be called a mountain. Idiot

Yeah we just get a kick out of putting employees and communities at risk just to keep prices up.

Turn-arounds' are the most dangerous times for a plant like this. Someone always leaves a valve open[or shut] when they start-up. BANG!

Oh my, I had this vision of 88,752,941,238 Rose petals fluttering over Los Angeles and messing up the Rose parade. Sorry.

I know the Crown Central plant well. It has always been a bomb about to go off. It is the worst maintained plant in the area. I don't know how it has been allowed to operate for this many years.

"I was raised in Pasadena. As a child we had explosions every other week it seemed."

I recall the Jolly Time Popcorn factory blew all to hell in the 50's in Sioux City, Iowa. The hull dust in the ducting was the culprit (IIRC).

Of course, the lunatic crew here would certainly insist this was a terrorist attack on America's popcorn.

In addition, the Swift packing plant blew up (circa 1952) and killed a number of innocent people. Another terrorist plot to weaken the Big Mac supply?

SHEEEEESH!

We have reached an understanding.

I'd like to come to Houston some day. Good to know I have friends there. Will I really need oxygen? If I had my scuba tanks with me when I was in California's "Pasadena," I would have been driving my van while breathing out of them. I tell you, it was like being on a poisoned planet in a sci-fi movie. I couldn't see the car in front of me...even if there was one...and it was High Noon. Without "Health Foods," they'd all be dead.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you...mail.
Ony 90 odd miles apart, yet very distant as far as company/contract knowledge.
Let me know something if you find out anything on your end.
