Egypt destroys new Coptic church Police help demolish building hours after 1st prayer meeting

The U.S. Copts Association says Egyptian officials outside of Cairo destroyed a newly built Coptic church just hours after it opened its doors and held its first prayer meeting.

The church had reportedly obtained all the proper permissions from President Hosni Mubarak's administration to build the facility in Al-Ubor city. Police forces reportedly participated in the destruction.

The first building opened Saturday. The first prayer meeting was held Sunday.

According to a statement by the association, Galal Sayed Al-Ahl, the mayor of the city, had been threatening the congregation during the building of the church's gate. Hours after the congregation finished its first prayer meeting, Al-Ahl and his local police forces stormed the church, arresting 10 members of the Coptic community and flattened what was built of the church.

This is not the first time Mubarak has issued permission to build a church only to allow it to be destroyed by local government officials who report to him, according to the association.

"It seems that there is an unspoken deal between higher government officials and the local officials when it comes to church construction in Egypt," said association President Michael Meunier. "Under international scrutiny, the Egyptian government issues limited number of new permits for church construction, but it gives all incentives to its local officials to stop the construction."

The association is calling on the Mubarak regime to conduct an investigation. It says in prior church-destruction incidents, no officials have been punished and the churches have been forced to bear the cost of rebuilding.

I suppose those worthless government building permits in Egypt also came with permit fees attached?

It would be great if in some of the statements Bush makes on terrorism, he'd criticize the oppression of people's free expression of religion, as we see in Egypt, Sudan, Indonesia, etc. More is being destroyed in some of these countries than church buildings -- lives are being taken.

And so behave "peace-loving" Muslims in a "moderate" Arab state. Moderation must mean pulling all the Christians out of a church before you burn it to the ground.

So, are we rewarding Mubarak with more taxpayer dollars by the shovel full? Or should we just give him more US arms?

Good thing Mubarak wasn't around when the Pharaohs built the pyramids. His goon squads would have had nervous breakdowns trying to flatten them.

This is a really bad time for Muslim leaders to behave like this. The Muslims claim that the US is prejudiced against Muslims. It the Muslims' claim is correct, then that is all the more reason for them to tread carefully now.

So is the UN going to condemn Egypt? Imagine the outcry if Israel (or the US) were to do the same to a Mosque.

Many moons ago, the government of Afghanistan demolished a new Christian church in Kabul. The bulldozer operators were met by Christians bearing tea and cookies. They excavated beneath the foundations, out of fear of something called an "underground church."

That same day, the Afghan monarchy fell, and the whole nation began a few decades of hell.

Egypt may also learn the price of messing with God's people.

My, my. So you're telling me that moslems don't celebrate diversity. But they tell us that we're supposed to. Which means that, in addition to their other dubious qualities, they can lay claim to hypocrisy as well.

The worst part is US taxpayers fund these nazi-muslim fanatics with billions of dollars. When is the government going to get serious about the war on terror? I fear many more thousands of Americans will have to die at the hands of muslim jihad terrorists before we cut off the money that keeps the scum in power.

"So is the UN going to condemn Egypt? Imagine the outcry if Israel (or the US) were to do the same to a Mosque."

....and maybe, just maybe, it's about time to do just that. It's high time someone stand up to the Islamic nutcases. I've HAD it with 'em. They rail and cry and mewl about how "the big bad US of A just doesn't like 'em 'n' all and we're all anti-Muslim meanies 'n' such"......and then they persecute Christians to the point of destruction of churches and murdering those of the faith.

Screw 'em.

Does seem a bit hypocritical doesn't it?

What? No muslims sypathizers on this thread?? No one to tell us that "this isn't true Islam"?? No one's gonna blame this on the Crusades? Isn't someone going to push the theory that this could be the work of the Mossad?

Truth. It makes the muslims flee. They fear it. They don't understand it. They're not used to it. It makes them nervous.

Satan is alive and well in Egypt. It is as wicked as it was in the days of Pharoah, when the God of Israel showed his mighty hand.

Egypt is not a friend of the U.S. and Islam is our enemy. Why? Because Islam cannot tolerate FREEDOM!

Any sane American will oppose the spread Islam.

It is not a religion alone. It is also a polical ideology.
