LOS ANGELES County supervisors blamed federal agents for their tactics during a standoff with a man barricaded in his home last August who shot and killed a sheriff's deputy.
An internal report was given to supervisors Tuesday by sheriff's officials about the Aug. 31 shooting. Deputy Hagop Kuredjian was killed as he helped fellow deputies and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms surround a house in the Santa Clarita Valley, north of Los Angeles. The man inside the home, James Allen Beck, began firing at officers, killing Kuredjian. Beck, 35, barricaded himself in his home following the shootout and authorities said he died in an ensuing fire.
Supervisor Mike Antonovich questioned the response of ATF agents who were serving a search warrant at Beck's home. Supervisors criticized the agents for underestimating the potential of Beck, a felon with a history of impersonating law enforcement officers and stockpiling weapons.
"As a result of their actions, we lost a very fine deputy," said Antonovich, who requested the report.
The federal agency has not completed its own investigation. A shooting review board will be convened to determine how the four-hour gun battle started.
Transcripts of conversations between Beck and authorities also were released as part of the sheriff's report.
"I'm not going to prison for life," Beck allegedly told a deputy. "I am sorry I had to take out one of your guys . . . It's your fault. You guys did this . . .
"I am not going down. This is going to be a mini-Waco. Bring on the sheriff's SWAT team."
The sheriff's investigation also revealed that 18 deputies and seven federal agents fired more than 500 rounds of ammunition. Beck fired "hundreds if not thousands" of rounds, the report said.
ATF agents conducted a search of Beck's home last year but no weapons were found. They did not believe Beck would cause any problems when they searched his home in August.

Antonovich Is Critical of ATF Over Shootout December 19, 2001

LA TIMES
Los Angeles County supervisors reacted sharply Tuesday to an internal report by the Sheriff's Department on the late-summer shootout in the Santa Clarita Valley, with one board member blaming federal agents for the death of a sheriff's deputy.
Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who represents the Stevenson Ranch area where Deputy Hagop "Jake" Kuredjian was killed in the Aug. 31 shooting, chastised agents from the federal [BATF]for their tactics in the seemingly routine weapons search. He also criticized the ATF for failing to conclude its own internal investigation and share it with the department. ***Rest of story can be read by clicking on LA Times link here<--- .
Act now peacefully to fight it while we still can.
....Wait until later to join the fight against this evil agenda and you we'll have no way to fight it peacefully.
Expect more ninja-suit raids, and more dead innocents when they kick down the doors to the wrong houses...
The JBTs will be unstoppable from here on out. Anyone who criticizes LEAs will be branded a traitor.
Especially here on Free Republic.
Public servants are accountable to the public that they serve. If that earns me the badge of traitor from some, so be it.
What is this crap? Unless Beck was firing caseless ammunition, they know exactly how many rounds he fired.
Exactly that. If they hadn't burned the house down, we would likely have been told of the "kiddie porn and drug paraphernalia they found inside."
Before 911, being a cop was statistically one of the safest jobs you could have, despite the fact that the general propaganda was that cops put their lives on the line every time they go on the street.
The fact is, before 911, garbage collectors were three times more likely to be killed on the job than cops. 911 skews those statistics quite a bit.
The demagogs will not distinguish between acts of terror and ordinary daily life. We are now all potential terrorists for the purposes of turning the country into a concentration camp.
If you like the post-911 airports, you are going to love what happens everywhere else.
It would help me to be able to listen to the recordings from which the transcripts were made. I doubt that they will ever be available.
I am not even convinced that recordings exist. I believe that the government liars are now using the word "transcript" to mean "conversations reconstructed from testimony of government agents". If someone can shed light on this, I would be interested.
Stay well - Stay safe - Stay armed - Yorktown
Plus ofcourse the FLAR footage, shells found, and the endless video footage proved the feds not only fired bullets into the WACO Campus but incendiery 40 caliber rounds and various other military rounds to murder those American Citizens.
And Clinton and Reno had it done.
At least a few of em get nailed in the process. The Davidians talked about one of the ATFagboy's head exploding.
I one reason I hate them for making that a happy mental picture for me.
