I don't know what to make of it all but as I have also seen posted here already, it smells bad.

I don't think it sounds good, either. There's somehow something odd about it. First of all, while the letter is laden with errors and odd constructions, it seems to me as if someone has far too good a mastery of colloquial American English to have picked it up in Pakistan. The easy use of the contraction ("don't")wouldn't be something for a merely occasional non-native speaker, even somebody who used chat-rooms. I don't know any Arabic languages, so I don't know if these grammatical mistakes would be typical of an Arabic speaker or not. (People tend to preserve some of their native language structures when writing in a second language.)

I was also puzzled by Amrikan. Perhaps it was an attempt to spell Amerikan (remember, the radical left was always referring to America as Amerika).

And, as many people here have pointed out, the photograph is also a little disturbing. It's not possible to be sure that it's Pearl (who, furthermore, appears to be wearing the kind of nylon running suit or windbreaker jacket often favored by natives of Arab countries, judging from pictures I have seen). And the fact that the clean, smooth-looking hand holding the gun appears to be wearing a gold ring also indicates that we're not talking about crazed goat-herders here.

'How 'bout Minnie Pearl? Is she Jewish too?"

Uh, prolly. Hollywood. Uh, most likely.

Islam is a belief system of exclusiveness, anti-diversity, pro-violence, conversion-by-force, anti-women and anti-individualism.

The sooner the world gets that concept straight, the sooner this problem might be solved.

Hey, those are good left-wing-nut-job concepts; who could possibly disagree?

I won't bore you with my opinion of cassius clay, who chose islam over the needs of the country he resides in, and remains in to this very day, sucking up freedom sucking up liberty, sucking up, generally. Any respect he gets will be when he renounces this stupidity, restores his name, and says he is sorry that he is a draft dodging boxer.

...this reporter is having his kicks...

This thought crossed my mind for a moment yesterday. I don't know whether to hope I'm wrong or right! We don't really want a hostage but if he's just looking for noteriety and messing around with our national security...

I suspect that the text of the message can be back-traced to a server within a very short distance of at least one terrorist.

The NYT claimed Monday that the emails were coming from Hotmail, with the user name kidnapperguy@hotmail.com.

When you send email from a Hotmail account, the IP address of the host you're connecting from is included in the email header.

Unless they're covertly hacking into another computer and using that to access Hotmail, their location has already been ID'd.

These terrorists are already toast.

Shoe Boy Reid, like Rat Boy Walker and the head of the ring that was planning to attack the U.S. embassy in Paris, joined Tabligh-i-Jamaat, a Pakistan-based Moslem organization, during the course of his radicalization. A few weeks ago, Wallaby found in the Indian press an allegation that Louis Farrakhan also belongs to Tabligh-i-Jamaat.

The liberasl press would be all over a story about American Moslems speaking out against terrorism. There aren't any supporting America over the terrorist publicly. Some may actually agree with America but they fear retaliation from other Moslems, if they do speak out.

They can not leave there religion because of fear of retaliation. This is truly an evil religion.

I think "Amrika" is the Arabic word for "America." I expect that the word for "America" in languages like Urdu, Baluchi, Pushtun, and Farsi is probably similar.

Thanks! That's added something (well, about 100%) to my knowledge of Arabic languages!

The first few times I read the email contents, I had a feeling of deja-vu... It had a familiarity to it that I could not explain... then I realized - that email sounds almost exactly the way as emails I get from left-wing jerks... even the spelling (or lack of) is the same... odd...

insure their promise that they won't attack the Olympics here

Not directly related to this issue, but just a little tidbit of info I picked up on this morning...

Sydney, Australia - January 22, 2002 - Asia Global Crossing (NYSE:AX) has won a multi-million dollar contract to provide the Seven Network with transmission capacity for its domestic broadcast of the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games in February 2002 and the Commonwealth Games being staged in Manchester from July-August 2002.

Global Crossing Website

Very interesting considering Hutchison Whampoa is now bailing Global Crossing out with a buyout. We all know the origins of Hutchison Whampoa...is there mischief afoot by the ChiComs?

Ali is the only American Muslim

American Muslim? I have found few, if any of those. Muslims that happen to live in America? Lot's of those.

Islam. We have seen it in action. We have learned it's teachings and what it wants. It wants all that is not Islam to be Islam. Pretty simple.

I guess there is nothing like, say, "Thou Shalt Not Kill" in the Peaceful Religion Of Islam that Ali could remind the kidnappers of?
