RICK ROBERTS SOURCE, HIGH-PLACED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL TOLD RICK
The comments of Rick Roberts source (a high placed law enforcement official) are in bold type. Additional information from other sources (press, etc.) are in italics.
- Rick Roberts high-placed law enforcement official said that the van Dams were involved in "swinging, lots of wife swapping."
- Rick Roberts high-placed law enforcement official said that before Danielles disappearance, the van Dams neighbor, David Westerfield "found out about the familys (van Dams) swinging lifestyle and approached them to host an adult party at his house."
David Westerfield has been quoted in the press as saying that he was a friend of the van Dams.
The van Dams have denied this, stating that their only contact with him was when Brenda and Danielle came to his home to sell girl scout cookies, and when they exchanged greeting as they passed by.
- Rick Roberts high-placed law enforcement official said that on the night of Danielles disappearance, "Brenda van Dam was at a local Poway bar where she was grinding away on the dance floor and possibly did a guy in the parking lot."
The bar has been identified in the press as "Dads Café and Steak House."
David Westerfield openly admitted that he was at the bar that night. He claims that he danced with Brenda van Dam. Brenda denies this.
- Rick Roberts high-placed law enforcement official said, "Brenda left the bar with 2 girlfriends and 2 guys and went back to the van Dams house."
- Rick Roberts high-placed law enforcement official said, "One timeline given in police records shows Brenda coming home from the bar to find the light [on the alarm] flashing and a door open. [She closed the door]."
- Rick Roberts high-placed law enforcement official said that Brenda "gave one of the girlfriends to her husband Damon as a present, and made sure to shut the doors on all the bedrooms so the kids wouldnt be awakened by loud lovemaking. She did not look to see if the kids were in their rooms."
- Rick Roberts high-placed law enforcement official said, "the adults locked themselves in the van Dams garage they have special inside locks so the kids cant come in and started smoking marijuana and fooling around. The adults in the garage were Brenda, Damon, 2 girlfriends, and 2 guys from the bar."
- Rick Roberts high-placed law enforcement official said, "after everyone had sex, Damon noticed the [alarm] light blinking and a door open. They were busy with their adult party, so they never checked on the kids."

1. Is anybody in this story somebody?
2. Does / should anybody outside of San Diego care about this story?
3. Is this the type of story that comes and goes in NYC every week?
I am not trying to be critical here. I just want to know if I am ignoring something I should know about, or if this is strictly of local interest.

Well, I like to think so. Grin...

Everyone is "somebody." If you have no interest in the story, though, I'm sure no one will fault you for withholding your commentary here.

actually the title "Rick Roberts:High-placed Law Enforcement Official" sounds like a pitch for a tv show. probaly UPN, or syndicated. I'd run it between Mutant-X and Andromeda.

Who/What the hell is Rick Roberts. I listen to Rick's show on occasion, when I can't get Hugh Hewitt's show due to poor reception. From the few times that I have listened, it seems that Rick is sort of like a Bill O'Reilly -- not really pro-conservative, but definitely not pro-liberal either. He seems to take the Fox News' "fair and balanced" approach. Anyway, you can get some more info. here

You've raised a great topic. We need to visit Burro Canyon sometime soon. Have you heard anything?

Isn't this an extremely local story? I have no idea what it's about. It doesn't belong in "Breaking News" which is RESERVED only for those stories that have interest to 90%+ of FReeperdom.
Perhaps you could start a YAHOO! FR/Fresno message board for stuff like this?

FresnoDA tends to post local news stuff to "Breaking" as if everyone knows what it's about.
I've tried to discuss this with him, but he insists that FR is his private bulletin board.
I have suggested that he start a YAHOO! FR/Fresno board for stuff of local interest (which appears to be pretty much all he's interested in). He hasn't replied yet.

Why on earth would a high-placed law enforcement official make these kinds of unsubstantiated statements to a discjockey during an ongoing investigation?
Why keep his name secret?
The lead investigator in the case has thus far cleared all the people in the house that night.

i don't understand the use of bold, unless it says something about the emotional status of the person who posts it.
and, the title...totally useless for archiving.

Thanks for clearing this up (Posts #70 & #72).
I was wondering why this nonsense was posted to 'Breaking' like it was some kind of major national story rather than a local crime story noted mainly for its titillation aspects.
See ya around,

LH

Yeh. When a child gets stolen or killed, we can be real basta*ds. Silly us. No, just viciously willing to believe nasty things about people who don't live your way - and on the basis of media reports, at that.

They were busy with their adult party, so they never checked on the kids." What is the purpose of this post? Would you have made it had it not contained all these sex-related details?
As far as the crime itself is concerned, there have been plenty of reports about the "life style" of the parents, so we know about that. I do not see a single bit of value added by your information.
Incidentally, there is know such thing as "adult party." This is terminology invented by the movie and porn industries. On this board, kindly refer to infidelity, promiscuity and the like by their proper names.

This post did contain material I hadn't seen before. It also identified the source of these reports. As for the use of the "adult party" phrase, that is a better phrase than using the exact descriptions for some the activities taking place, at least on the open forum.
I'm not sure why this post bothers you.
