Gov. Mark R. Warner (D) declared yesterday that he will break with the decisions of his two Republican predecessors and issue no proclamation marking April as a month of Civil War remembrance.

Calling such proclamations a "lightning rod" that does not help bridge divisions between whites and blacks in Virginia, Warner made the announcement after a 45-minute meeting with representatives of three Confederate heritage groups. He said he would continue to hold "a dialogue with all Virginians about our shared history and future."

Oh no this moron is running again ?......... From WP:

Ben Jones, a candidate for Congress in southern Virginia and the actor who played "Cooter" on the television show "Dukes of Hazzard," said the Confederate groups told Warner that they do not believe their history is a symbol of hate and bigotry.

How about we proclaim a Constitution and Declaration Day, wherein we celebrate the victory of the Constitution and the principles of the Declaration of Independence over slavery and separatism?

Warner is a heavy left girly-man. You can see it in his eyes. In office for five minutes and already compromised.

How many times has he lost? I thought he was in Georgia though. I guess he is swimming upstream or something. If he isn't careful, and swims too far, he will be surrounded by Yankees. :)

How 'bout we do things in our state the way we want and you do things the way you want? It is very common for people to put their noses in other peoples' business. ie. Rosie.

...lightning rod" that does not help bridge divisions between whites and blacks in Virginia...

But I suppose reparations, afirmative action, black history month, MLK day etc. will help bridge these divisions. LOL!

Thanks for the ping, Free the USA.

Sheila B. Coates, president of Black Women United for Action in Fairfax County, said, "I stand firm with the governor." But she added that slavery "should not be pushed under the rug."

Typical of the black leadership - slavery is such a painful reminder, but we want to rub in everyone's face so we can get reparations.

One more thing, we WILL celebrate Confederate Heritage in April. We don't need a scalwag governor's stamp to be PROUD!

how 'bout the commonwealth of Va stops collecting sales tax or accommodations taxes on tourism at Appomatox, Manasses, Fredricksburg and so forth? That would show the guv's true commitment to what he's saying. In fact, why doesn't he just close down all the sites while he's in office?
