I've read up on both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War and I think your connections between the two are suspect at best.

In the first place, note the title of the first conflict, Revolutionary War. Not 'Secessionary War' but a war of rebellion. Our founding fathers knew that their actions were not permitted by English law and they knew that they would have to fight to get their freedom. Unlike the south, they did not try to paint their actions as a legal act. Unlike the south, they were not surprised when the English fought to keep them. So unless you are willing to admit that the southern actions were a rebellion and that the North was well within it's rights to try and prevent it then your comparision between the founding fathers and the confederate regime are ridiculous.

The South fought a good, if not glorious, fight for States Rights, and has NOTHING to be ashamed of.

The south tried to overthrow the results of an election conducted under rules they agreed to-for the most heinous of reasons. There is very little worthy of honor in the CSA experience. Even if you want to honor the common soldiers you have to acknowledge that they were duped into fighting for the slave power.

!!! If The Declaration of Indepence (BTW, it already has a day - July 4th)doesn't stand for separatism, then it's a pretty meaningless document.

It actually stands for pledging your sacred honor to a common goal.

And if your reference is Carl Sandberg, need I aquaint you with the term "Stalinist Ass Kisser"

Depth of analysis is not of a very high standard among supporters of the CSA.

What you have to do is prove that Sandburg made up or modified this quote of Forrest's.

If you can't do that, you are just wasting bandwidth.

You spout the principles of the Declaration of Independence and that is what the South seceded under!

Not true.

"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed."

There was no long train of abuses prior to 1860.

The revolution of the south against the lawful authority was unwarranted.

What's his name was taking issue with Sandburg when the source of his irritation was Forrest. That's not very deep thinking.

My Southern ancestors who fought in the Civil War had nothing to be ashamed of. They fought hard. They fought well. It is not wrong to honor brave men who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

"Gov. Mark R. Warner (D) declared yesterday that he will break with the decisions of his two Republican predecessors and issue no proclamation marking April as a month of Civil War remembrance."

Wow! Does that mean he will issue a proclamation marking April as a month of "War of Northern Aggression" remembrance? Even better!

The liberals will not be happy until the Civil War is removed from the history books, and pride in one's Southern Heritage is a hate crime.

Yeah, and that sacred goal was the seccession from Britain.

That's right! There's no shame in slavery. Bring back the weekly lynching!

Careful, J.W., your ignorance born of not bothering to look any further than what you see on tv and read what is spoonfed to you is showing.

One man's view. What precipitated Fort Sumter? The closing of the Charleston Custom Offices. Follow the Money.

Enfield, trying to have an honest debate with ravinson is like trying to make sense of whatever cause any leftist supports. This hypocrit will, when you beat his one dimensional argument, resort to calling you a liar, a Nazi, or a Klansman. All the while claiming a moral high ground because, like any other liberal, his morality trumps any historical fact or any question of law. Just thought you would like to know.
