Bad News A Death That Didn't Happen

Remember the solemn proclamations, in the wake of Sept. 11, that political correctness was dead? That all the loony ‘liberal´ multiculturalist, diversity-mongering tolerance hucksters had lost their influence? And that our nation would now return to a semblance of seriousness about our problems, relegating the socialists, race baiters and mindless, touchy-feely group-hug advocates to history´s dustbin? Sorry, folks; to paraphrase Mark Twain, the report of the death of ‘liberal´ mindlessness was premature:

•  In Michigan, a 7-year old boy was arrested and charged with three charges of felonious assault for pointing a toy plastic gun at three other boys. Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office said Tommy Davis' intent was to threaten and scare the other children. Yeah…it´s called ‘playing.´

•  The mayor of Atlanta was ‘saddened´ to hear that H. Rap Brown (or Abasik Peesa Dung, or whatever he calls himself today) was found guilty of shooting two police officers, killing one by standing over him and pumping bullets into his groin. Wonder if she was equally saddened at his deaths?

•  The President´s ‘amnesty´ passed the House of Representatives, so now illegal Mexican immigrants can buy their legality for $1,000, encouraging the already overwhelming numbers of illegals and a general disregard for law.

•  The Orlando Red Cross refused to allow a middle school chorus sing in a ceremony honoring 9/11 workers, because their selections included the words ‘G-d´ and ‘prayer´, which ‘might offend our diverse audience.´ Another song the students were to perform, "Declaration"—based on the Declaration of Independence—was ‘too political,´ said a Red Cross spokesman. “The dispute centers only on our sensitivity to religious diversity and a preference for a music program that would be inclusive and not offend different populations participating in this event.” But wasn´t that G-d that practically everyone was calling on and praying to on Sept. 11?

•  An Ohio University journalism professor is being forced to remove his great-grandfather's rifle, an 1878 Springfield, from his campus office after someone complained about it, even though it has hung there for 15 years. Prof. Patrick Washburn said he didn´t even know what kind of shell the gun would take, but university officials say it violates the school´s workplace violence policy. Firearmphobia?

•  The Animal Rights Foundation of Florida set straight Kim Mogilevsky's second-grade class in Boynton Beach, Fla. The students spent two years raising money to buy cows and chickens for poverty-stricken families in Africa, but the animal rights group sent a letter to Mogilevsky asking her to "reconsider" her work with Heifer Project International, saying the project causes "pain, misery and killing ... that desensitizes children to the pain and suffering of animals." I guess the starving kids in Africa will understand.

•  Colombian activists say Arnold Schwarzenegger's latest action movie about a firefighter's efforts to avenge the terrorist killing of his wife and son is insulting and discriminatory against Colombians. Protesters appearing at a preview of the movie Collateral Damage said the movie cements stereotypes that Colombians are drug traffickers and guerillas instead of hardworking, educated people. "It is discriminatory against Colombians,” said Brian Jordan, a Franciscan priest. Apparently these ‘educated´ people haven´t heard of fiction.

•  Logan County Public Library employee Kimberly Draper was fired for refusing to remove a cross she wears on her necklace. A dress code that forbids "clothing depicting religious, political, or potentially offensive decoration" was in place when she was hired in 1998, but she was assured that her cross was acceptable. But in April of last year Draper was ordered by an assistant library director to take it off or go home. An official said that ‘library employees are in direct contact with members of the public, who represent a broad spectrum of religious faiths and might be offended by the display.´ I guess that spectrum doesn´t include Christians?

•  In 1998, National Public Radio, a taxpayer-funded operation, blacklisted Steven Emerson of the Investigative Project under pressure by Muslim extremists that labeled him a bigot for suggesting that radical Islamic terrorism is a threat to the United States. NPR officials vowed to keep Emerson off the air after complaints from the American Arab Action Network. The network now denies that it blacklists anyone and said that Emerson would be welcome back, but he has yet to appear…even since 9/11. Well, after all, he was so obviously wrong…

•  Speaking of taxpayer-funded groups: The links page for "youth resources" on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Web site includes a link to the Coalition for Positive Sexuality, which calls itself a "guerrilla sex education" group. From the site: "If you think you might be queer, relax! If you think you are queer, try to find a lesbian/bisexual/gay/transgender community center near you, where you can meet other queers your age." If you think you might not be queer….what are you, a sicko?!

•  A black Chicago columnist took issue when the U.S. Army´s written directions to promotions boards giving preference to minorities and women were ruled unconstitutional. Said the columnist, “In fact, affirmative action does not have to mean lowered standards or double standards. It means simply trying harder to reach out and expand the pool of available candidates for various positions.” Oh. And ‘reaching out´ for those who didn´t qualify in the first place isn´t ‘lowered standards´?

•  The National Education Association (NEA) and the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) are engaged in a campaign to establish "anti-harassment" and "anti-discrimination" policies on school campuses, to prevent honest discussion of homosexuality. The NEA is encouraging pro-homosexual students and teachers to report any student who dares to express medically-based or morally-based opposition to homosexuality. Such "hate-motivated incidents" may involve something as simple as a student expressing his disapproval of sodomy or verbalizing the truth that homosexual sex frequently leads to HIV infection and death. If I say anything about this giving Brown Shirts an entirely new meaning…never mind.

•  Also on the homo agenda: GLSEN is sponsoring a "Day of Silence," on April 10 on campuses where it has established homosexual recruitment programs known as Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) clubs. The "Day of Silence" is supposed to dramatize the fear and persecution that homosexual students allegedly experience at the hands of "heterosexism" and the mythical mental illness called "homophobia." Apparently the goal is to force school officials to prohibit any rational discussion of homosexuality as a self-destructive sexual behavior. The truth is that this behavior inevitably results in high rates of anal cancer, HIV infections, and devastating bowel diseases from anal intercourse. This group that seeks to stifle constitutionally guaranteed free speech about its perversion has, however, created a workbook designed to teach 11- to 13-year-old children a series of 16 filthy words dealing with homosexuality. These words were deemed too offensive by the Chairman of the Broward School Board to be read aloud at the meeting.

•  The United States Students Association is urging the nation's colleges and universities to provide single-stall "gender neutral" restrooms for transgender students to protect them from harassment and physical attacks. "We're the nation's oldest student association,” said a USSA spokesman…-woman…-person…-it, “and we believe access to education should be open to all, regardless of gender, ethnicity or sexual identity." Access, yes; extra tax dollars or contributions to support a personal wacko choice, no.

•  A public school district in Oklahoma City has posted on its Web site a copy of the "Black Pledge of Allegiance," which refers to the colors of the flag that represents the Black Liberation Movement. Though ‘disappointed´ that students have started reciting the pledge in the classroom, Millwood School Superintendent Gloria Griffin said will not remove the pledge from the Web site because it may send the wrong message to students. Being a separate nation inside America isn´t the ‘wrong message´? "I don't think any African-American wants to be stripped and told, 'You shouldn't have any symbols,´” Mrs. Griffin said. Sort of the way patriotic, non-racist Southerners have been stripped of the Confederate battle flag, you mean?

•  The new Transportation Security Authority has issued guidelines for ‘further screening´ at airports. Old ladies, young black males, white cowboys, elderly Oriental men, even 90-yr olds in wheelchairs are all subject to closer examination. Guess who´s not? From the FAA´s manual: "Selection must not be based solely because a person speaks Arabic, Farsi, or another foreign language, or solely because they speak with an accent that may lead one to believe they are Arab, Middle Eastern, South Asian, and/or Muslim." Political correctness didn´t die, after all.

Amusing? Some people wouldn´t think so. The first ones pledged, and gave, ‘their lives, their fortunes, their sacred honor.´ Most of the rest died in faraway places and long ago times. But eight died just last week. It was not for this.

Some Conservatives are always trying to declare victory and surrender. One halfway unbiased news story and all of a sudden Dan Rather's a conservative.

Some positive things did happen after 9-11, but to assume that liberals would grow up and embrace personal responsibility and love our American Heritage, is beyond wishful thinking.

If this totalitarian nonsense doen't stop, America will die from within. Did anyone else see Sean Hannity's "man in the street" interview? At least 10 adults could not identify a photo of Dick Cheney or that he was VP of the U.S.

If we don't bring our educational system back to local control, millions more will be dumbed down and the new world order will become a reality.

If the people of Toogood reports, Newsmax, the Wall Street Journal Editorial page and other revenue-generating operatiosn ewver really admitted that evil (as they define it) had been conquered, they, well, would be out of jobs.

So it is in their interest to fight, but it is not really in their interest to win, completely. Because then they would go out of business.

They always need an enemy, because without their enemies, they have no revenue stream.

It's the same thing with Jerry Fallwell. If Jesus ever comes back, Jerry's going to be really P.O.'ed, because Jerry won't be able to ask for contributions any more.

"The President´s ‘amnesty´ passed the House of Representatives, so now illegal Mexican immigrants can buy their legality for $1,000, encouraging the already overwhelming numbers of illegals and a general disregard for law."

Doesn't a bill have to be passed by BOTH houses of the government, then signed into law by the President before it can be implemented? If this hasn't happened, then this piece of legislation isn't a law yet, and it is not in effect.

It's early days yet in the war.

We presently have a similar situation to the famous "phony war" on the Western Front in the early days of WWII. A single attack outraged Americans but did not really convince them at a gut level that their survival was imperilled. The absence of followup attacks makes it easy to fall back into old patterns of behavior.

Other attacks will occur, unfortunately. When Americans begin to comprehend at an emotional level that PC will kill them, it will indeed be destroyed.

This is a big country. A single incident, no matter how dramatic, cannot turn it around on a dime.

Hmmm...

Instead of doing something that might "offend" a tiny number of people, do something that will offend nearly everyone.

Are we really supposed to take this horse manure at face value?

Anyone who doesn't see an agenda at work needs a serious wakeup call.
