More INS Bungling comes to light. Film at 11.

Where was Doris Meissner. clinton's piglet in the INS who was so very, very busy conspiring in the debacle that crushed Elian Gonzalez? I still don't know the dates those hellacious creeps were in flight school. Did Doris have poor plans in her INS booklet for preventing such insidious mistakes? Or did she just ignore them? Did she leave the INS in a muddled mess? Who was in charge of the INS when these jerks took their first lesson in flying? Did the perps take their flight lessons on President Bush's watch only? Enquiring minds want to know. I mean.....

"The INS said on Friday it had made personnel changes after the embarrassing incident that triggered widespread criticism, moving four people to various positions and moving the career employees who had been in those posts to other jobs within the Justice Department."
All promoted!! In six months, all will be involved in implementing the merger between INS and Customs. All will receive even larger cash perfomance awards and all will be VIGOROUSLY defending INS turf so those bastards from Customs don't take unfair advantage of INS ineptitude.
The INS forces will now work 115% to ensure that they are not embarassed like this again. They don't care how many terrorists get in, so long as they can shift the blame and avoid being embarassed again.

"This enables them to study, and in the case of shorter programs, even to complete or nearly complete their studies before their eligibility has ever been refused," he said. "Atta and Al-Shehhi fit into that description."But their eligibility was NOT refused!

Now what scares me the most about all of this is that both Atta and Al-Shehhi complied with the law. They (and most of the other terrorists) entered legally, they filled out the proper forms, they seemed to comply in all respects to those laws with which compliance was necessary. I remember reading that one of them was even stopped by an Oklahoma state trooper - the trooper recalled how calm and cool the terrorist appeared during the traffic stop (and this terrorist as well had a proper driver's license, vehicle registration and insurance). These guys entered our nation with a plan to murder thousands; they knew the laws and how to behave when stopped by police. How many are still in our country, obeying and complying... biding their time? How many are still expecting to receive student visas? How many are expecting to receive residency permits? These guys have had 8 years to lay their plans and build their infrastructure; I am still of the opinion that 9/11 was merely the first stage. It's time to profile and profile big time... though I don't know how much good even that will do since reportedly Bin Laden bragged that he had followers who were not Arabs.

The hijackers were tight with Mr. Dekker, whom Atta knew from Hamburg.

He said INS was also considering changing regulations to cut the processing time for applications for the change to student visa status to 30 days.Another joke from the ridiculously politicized and shortsighted INS.
How about those who want to "change to student visa status" return to their home countries and apply for a student visa? Then put them through a local, home-country criminal background check, as is done with immigrant visas.
The problem isn't merely that INS uses a paper-based system and scanners, it's that the INS has been perverted in its mission by the whimsies of Congress, greedy school administrators, and employer lobbyists. There is no evidence that this has changed.
The chickens are coming home to roost as the decades-long malfeasance at INS is now bumping up against the security and safety of the American public.
INS has become the country's most dangerous security threat.
