The fact that the authors of The God That Failed were not all pro-U.S. also tells us something important. The U.S. didn't need to feel that it could only tolerate pro-U.S. thinkers, as was the case in the U.S.S.R. In Franco's Spain Karl Marx was freely available, but writing with that kind of dissent was not available in the U.S. Even if disillusioned Marxists didn't completely realize it, the fact that their writing was appreciated and available here meant the U.S. meant they weren't giving the U.S. enough credit. Today, we can still read The God That Failed and appreciate it for what it is, even if the authors never fully appreciated this country.

"He assured his readers that "no criticism of the Communists removes the arguments against capitalism." Indeed, "America, the greatest capitalist country, seems to offer no alternative to war, exploitation, and destruction of the world’s resources." Some new "American-centered" paradigm!"

Yawn...

America, the nation that stopped the Holocaust, rebuilt Germany and Japan with our own money, then turned over their governments back to them rather than keep our empire.

The nation that invented the electric speed-of-light telegraph, telephone, radio, camera, movies, airplanes, mass production, modern medicine, atomic power, computers, et al.

The nation that had to be attacked in order to be drawn in to the European War of Socialism, AKA world war II.

And all that we have to offer is war and exploitation. Yeah right.

With uneducated ramblings such as those anti-American claims, it is no wonder that Communism failed to persuade the world via intellectual debate.

Those that dreamed (and continue to dream) of communism simply do not understand human nature. Communism can only be imposed by the force, and it cannot last, because men wish to be free.

The struggle will continue.
