Friedman oozes BlameAmericaFirstism and Nordlinger does a good job skewering the banality of his argument.
Thanks fer posting this good read...MUD

As a free public service, I will provide a partial list of other things a missile-defense system would fail to stop: a suitcase bomb; an invasion; poverty; the clap; tennis elbow. It also would not stop or prevent liberalism, which is the biggest threat to this country in the world today.

This is a reminder of the dangerously thin ice we're walking on in this country. Gore almost won the last election. As bad as Bush is (I'm thinking of CFR), just imagine where we'd be with Gore. As angry as I am at Bush (again, thinking of CFR), I'm going to do what I can, volunteering and giving money, to help Real Republicans get elected in 2002 and 2004.
The world is a very dangerous place and the USA is full of some very dangerous people. Our only defense are the few good Republicans we are able to elect here and there. The rest is garbage.

Nordlinger is right. Friedman's 3/17 column is a real stinker. Friedman had been writing some creditable stuff since 9/11, but I guess he finally felt it was time to slip back into the comfortable snotty BS he's so good at.
