This analogy isn't a good one. The nukes we have now are Ferrais. You'd be taking a Ferrari into the garage and coming out with a pickup truck (a utility vehicle designed for a limited and specific purpose).
This is inevitable. We needn't use these weapons (although I would personally). We need only demonstrate the resolve to use them and the purpose of will to develop them. It's odd. The one President to actually use nukes and the other to come the closest were both Democrats. But it is usually only a Republican that the public at large and world leaders in particular really fear will use a nuke in a conflict (or in a flight of fancy if some liberal pundits are to be believed).
This works in our favor though. The Bush admin need simply put out the word that it is looking for nuclear solutions to military problems- like this bunker busting rotor rooter bomb- and the rest of the world sits up and takes notice. If Bush indeed does use a nuke- even a low scale one like this- world affairs would change in that very moment, just as they did in 1945. Personally, I think they would change for the better but I'll leave it to the boys in the big house to decide that one, that's an awful lot to heap on the plate.
