Israel Plans Massive Retaliation Following Netanya Attack; PA Forces on High Alert

SNIP...Palestinian sources said Thursday afternoon that Palestinian Authority security forces were on high alert and that all government and military buildings in the West Bank city of Ramallah were evacuated for fear of an IDF attack.

The sources said all military facilities in Palestinian cities were evacuated, and that many citizens bought food and emergency supplies in preparation of a long siege by Israel.

The sources added that Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat told his aides that he feared for his life, because Sharon was showing signs that he wanted to harm him personally.

The Qatari television station Al Jazzera reported Thursday that European countries instructed foreign representatives to leave Ramallah.

For its part, the Palestinian Authority officially condemned the bombing, saying the attack was designed to undermine the U.S. ceasefire mission and the Arab summit in Beirut.

The Palestinian Authority also said that it would take serious measures against the people responsible for the attack and will bring them to justice.

A Palestinian source said Wednesday night that Arafat met with his security chiefs and ordered the arrests of key members from Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, a group linked to his Fatah movement.

Palestinian Preventative security chief for the West Bank, Jibril Rajoub, also condemned the bombing, but said Wednesday that Israel's harsh occupation of Palestinian territory provoked such attacks. Rajoub said Israeli "assassinations" of activists, continued closures of Palestinian towns and other collective punishments only bred "terrorism."

"Despite the steady policy of the Palestinian Authority, which opposes hitting civilian targets especially inside the Green Line [Israel's 1967 border], the frustrations, suffering and pain imposed by [Prime Minister Ariel] Sharon on the Palestinians pushes some Palestinians to carry out such attacks," he said.

Rajoub said Israelis must start lifting the blockades of Palestinian cities and acknowledged that "occupation breeds terrorism." (Albawaba.com)

What does DEBKA say, "IDF breaks up Arab Summit"?

Actually that would be pretty cool.

Here is my solution to the middle east violence...

1) Agree to the Saudi Plan of returning Israel to the borders prior to the 1967 war

2) Create a Palestinian nation on the returned land

Now for the fun part. Have Sharon and the entire western world inform Arafat that upon agreement to the above terms that a single terrorist act upon Israel will void the deal and Sharon is authorized to unleash every ounce of military force at his disposal. That Sharon is authorized to use said force for the purpose of destroying Palastine and its citizens and wiping it off the face of the earth. Israel shall then have claim to the land and it will be theirs forever.

Shall we hold our breath?.... Same old BS. Execute them, then perhaps the PA might be taken seriously, untill then they are irrelevant.

Apologies to Gregory Peck in Destination Tokyo: "I hear Palestinians are rather eager to die for Allah. Well, a bunch of them are going to be real happy real soon."

For its part, the Palestinian Authority officially condemned the bombing

Meaningless disinformation, meant to confuse only the New York Slimes and others similarly affected with the twin diseases of all liberals: an inability to reason and no moral compass.

A Palestinian source said Wednesday night that Arafat met with his security chiefs and ordered the arrests of key members from Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade

So what, they'll just be released next week. When will the world get it? These people are psychopathic murderers bent on the destruction of Israel and murdering all of its citizens for the "crime" of being Jews.

Rajoub said Israeli "assassinations" of activists, continued closures of Palestinian towns and other collective punishments only bred "terrorism."

And what, exactly, bred terrorism before 1967? This guy is a lying sack of s#$%, and probably a murderer as well.

The sources added that Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat told his aides that he feared for his life

If true, good; I hope that he craps his pants every time he hears a jet or helicopter pass by. However, this too is meaningless disinformation. It is aimed at distracting world attention from the fear many Israelis have for their lives due to his psychopathic habit of planning the murders of anyone and everyone who is not convenient to his view of the world.

Prudent.

And a prudent move by Israel would be to wait until the PA lowers its alert level.

Then strike.

What I find interesting here is something so subtle that the rest of you might NOT have pick it up yet.......

given the pure barbarity of this act one SHOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY suspected that GW Bush would have issued an IMMEDIATE plea NOT TO ASSASSINATE ARAFART....BUT HE DIDN'T!!!!!!!

in the mid east what is UNSAID is often AS IMPORTANT as what IS SAID...... If I were Arafart now I'd HAVE TO BE WRTING MY LAST WILL right now!!!!

Good post. I would only add this: I wonder how long it will take MEMRI to translate the simultaneous statements of the PA in Arabic praising the bomber as a martyr for Islam.

"Why shouldn't the Israeli people demand that their IDF return to the pre-'67 Israeli boundaries?"

Because those borders leave Israel in an untenable defensive position facing an implacably hostile neighbor. The avowed aim of Arafat and the Palestinians is to push the Jews into the sea. To believe that this will be changed by withdrawal to pre-1967 borders ignores the attacks on Israel prior to 1967. Why should the Jews be required to assist enemies who have shown their agenda to destroy Israel many times?

As for the Saudi proposal for "peace", its such a sham that I'm surprised that even Powell would fall for it. Withdraw to pre-1967 borders (see above), give Palestinians the right of return (thus allowing massive numbers of the enemy into the country), and the Arabs will normalize relations with Israel (an empty promise at best). Anyone who would fall for this would buy a used Yugo.
