""This is just another wedge to drive between private and public schools in that corporations can only give that money to go to private schools," said Osceola School Board member Judy Robertson. "It wouldn't be an issue if public education was funded at an adequate level." (Orlando Sentinel)

And what is "an adequate level?" Is there any level of per-pupil funding that would convince the NEA that it is "adequate?"

Here in North Carolina, the Pitt County county commissioners got in an argument with the local school district there over funding - and a county commissioner openly stated that no amount of funding would satisfy the school system!

So unionized teachers roast their child hostages - that's right - to protest funding.

Inside the NEA

Dawg-house 'em!
Send those teachers who turned off the lights and A/C to outdoor-temporary-buildings for the summer. Any kids who show up at school dressed in hip-hop gear, or showing gang colors will join them as their new students.

They should be summarily fired and jailed; they're defrauding the parents and jeopardizing their students' health and welfare by depriving them of A/C when it's so hot (mid-80s).

"Florida Power, as a public citizen here in Pinellas County and other places in the state, should not be taking the money that we send them for our power bill and use it to support and assist unregulated, private schools," said Rob McMahon, teachers' union president.

Little, small minded Robbie McMahon hates it because it's working.

If the public school curriculum were'nt so twisted, people wouldn't want to take their kids out.
The moron liberals have ruined education in America, and they're turning our college kids against us.

I'd love to see choice in education go nation wide.

Would that this wedge were driven to a state of complete disrepair between public and private schools.

People in this county needs to keep an eye on this Judy Robertson. She's a squish. And she knows that public schools are receiving more than adequate funding.

CW, I recall ( I have the news clipping, but it would mean disturbing my wife to fetch it ) when vouchers were passed a few years ago in a large northern city, the mayor, and apparently honest Democrat, remarked:

"Well, it's the end of excuse-based education...."

If the voucher goes to the parent, and the parent has choice among religious and sectarian schools, then there is no Constitutional issue. Period. End of story.

Thank you God.

Support of religious schools? Give me a break! The leftist cult is supported with trillions of tax payer dollars for education and they complain when a couple bucks go to decent religious schools.

These people's stinginess of control and with money is starting to anger me really bad.

AMerica needs its own very bourgeois revolution answering in decent manner to the 60s obsenities and swines.

The hell with those bastards.

If only the public skools had not failed these parents of "low-income families" they would be smart enough to know that they should send their children through the same pathetic institution.

'It's been a blessing'

Sure is. The U.S. needs plenty more of them, for everyone. Tough if the teachers in the public school don't like it. It's not up to them.

EVEN if it is in accordance with the law, Mr. McMahon?

"It wouldn't be an issue if public education was funded at an adequate level."

In the mind of the NEA and their local affiliates there never is an adequate level. I am ready to turn off the lights in all NEA schools.

It is time to quit calling these dins of lower learning "public schools" and start calling them what they really are - "NEA Schools"

As a longtime resident of Volusia and having parents and siblings teaching in the school system (public) here since 1972, I can say Vouchers are a GOOD thing.

Some of you know that while conservative and a Christian, I strenuously oppose taxpayer-funded school vouchers. This, however, is a voucher program I *can* get behind and support enthusiastically. If voucher supporters form a private not-for-profit charity, get INS tax-free status, and are able to solicit millions of dollars in *private* money from corporations and wealthy individuals, thus paying out *scholarships* to qualified poor students, who's to complain?

That teachers should protest *private* money going to *private individuals* for *private schools* is not only sad and wrong; it's infuriating. Those complaining obviously don't understand the *LEAST* thing about our American system and basic freedoms. I would like to assign them all a thorough reading of the 1925 Supreme Court decision Pierce v. Society of Sisters, which *upholds* the right of students to a private education, and which declares categorically that "The child is not the mere creature of the State."
