91 year old neighbor shoots home invader

Man slain at ex-girlfriend's Clintonville house

Wednesday, April 3, 2002

Police said a 91-year-old man might have been coming to the aid of a female neighbor last night when he fatally shot a 29-year-old man at a Clintonville home.

Officers were called about 8:30 p.m. to 269 E. Lincoln Ave. When they arrived, they found the body of the younger man lying in the driveway.

He was the former boyfriend of the woman who lives at the house, police said. They did not further identify either man or the woman, who was being questioned.

The younger man allegedly came to the home, kicked in the back door and began beating the woman.

The woman's elderly neighbor, who was inside her house, then fired a gun at the man. After he was shot, the younger man stumbled out of the house and fell to the driveway.

Columbus Police Sgt. Eric Pilya said the shooting could be a case of self-defense.

Officers said that there was a history of police runs to the house for domestic problems and that the woman and the younger man had parted ways about a year ago.

The windshield of the woman's daughter's car, which was parked on the street near the house, was smashed Monday night. Police were checking whether that incident was related to the shooting.

Columbus, where? (I hate it when people don't identify the location--"Columbus Dispatch" means nothing to me. Columbus OHIO? Columbus GA? Some other I haven't heard of? Which?)

The follow-up report seems to indicate it was a 91 year old woman (SHIRLEY Becraft). But the Dispatch report says it was a man. Which is it? Or is it a MAN named SHIRLEY?

Too confusing a report. Try again.

Thanks for posting this.

Gray panther example of excellent gun control!

Good shooting, and scoop up the trash and bury it some where.

Did you ever see that movie with Chevy Chase? (Fletch?)

Some nameless character: "Surely, you're not serious."

Chevy Chase character: "Yes, I'm serious. And my name is not Shirley."

Classic.

Maury Povitch's father's name was Shirley. He was a very famous, well-respected Sports Writer.

Look at the name of the town. A duplicitous government can pretty much be taken for granted.

The windshield of the woman's daughter's car, which was parked on the street near the house, was smashed Monday night. Police were checking whether that incident was related to the shooting.

What possible relation could this have to do with the shooting? It might have something to do with the dead man, but why on earth would it have to do with what transpired on a different night?

Probably just sloppy reporting. But, we are used to that when it comes to 2nd Amendment issues, aren't we?

According to 610 WTVN in Columbus

kAcknor Sez:

They also started the report with how "An attempted break-in ended in tragedy". Didn't sound like much of a tragedy to me. I'd say more along the lines of "The good guys win one".
