I always wondered why the Church didn't defend the Jews against the Nazis more ---I know there was some but not enough then. History seems to repeat itself.

For a very long time before and even during WWII, the Church was the ONLY one defending them, as it could, seeing as how it had no army. Look up the papal document Mit Brenender Sorge.
