you would think people would try to find some other, less suicidal way of influencing the society they live in.

Those that secede don't ask for violence. The powers that be seek to quash dissent by killing those who only wish to be left alone to form their own society. Why would an attempt at secession by Texas, let's say, be justification to kill thousands of people who only wish to be left alone?

I'm ready to go and I think we could work out a peaceful settlement with the Leftists in TX who wouldn't want to stay. Perhaps we could make a deal with N. Mexico - they get 5 libs for every 1 conservative they can find and we trade?

Did I say that violence to prevent secession would be justified? I merely pointed out that the only previous serious attempt to secede resulted in hindreds of thousands of deaths.

There are a great many activities that you have the right to engage in, but that still would be a very poor idea. For instance, you have the moral right to go to a bar in a bad part of town, get really drunk and flash a lot of cash while loudly spouting ethnic slurs.

Violence against you would be very likely under this scenario. It wouldn't be justified, but you'd still be in the hospital, if you were lucky.

For one you are relying on yet another gov't to do what it thinks is best for it.... if you wanna talk about bad gov't??? hell I live in california.. you wanna talk about bad gov't? You think I would trade the United States for the Great Country of California???? hell no... regardless of the forms the gov't you abide by will always have problems... all the way down to the local level... there is no right of the states for them to resolve themselves to leave the union... that's just plain stupid in my opinion... in fact I hope Texas leaves the union.. that way when they leave Mexico can re-invade and take over the steers and q............ that still live in that cursed state. And don't forget where your president came from!
