Conflict begins anew debate on end times

The bloody conflict in the Middle East is again turning some evangelicals to the Bible for texts that speak of a final cosmic battle in those ancient lands.

Some scholars and religious leaders warn against being too literal.

As with the founding of Israel in 1948, the Six Day War in 1967, and the Persian Gulf war of 1991, the ongoing violence between Israel and Palestinians is making some Christians think of a biblical-scale showdown.

Erin Zimmerman, a columnist for the Christian Broadcasting Network, recently visited Israel with evangelicals and was "surprised by the lack of detailed, 'date-setting' type of end-times speculation that was popular during the Gulf war."

Perhaps it's because eschatology profiteer charlatans like Hal Lindsey, are starting to lose their credibility. Perhaps 'real' Christians accept Matthew 24:36.

It seems appropriate to think of the Final Days at this point in mankind's history.

• The Jews are back in Israel
• Scientists are discovering the secrets to life and the universe.
• People from different countries no longer have problems communicating (computer based instant translation).

A short explanation of some of what I think:

• I think that when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit they started the mutation of mankind's DNA. As the DNA got more messed up, men's lives became shorter. (The early patriarchs, with more perfect DNA than ours, lived longer lives). Scientists are getting near the point where they understand DNA enough to "create" and prolong man's life, reversing the death and disease Adam and Eve initiated.
• I think the Tower of Babel was destroyed by God because God wanted to stall mankind's advance in these areas, until the End Times. The tower builders wanted to show they were like gods (ie, discover the secrets of life and the universe). It was not yet time (according to God's plan) for them to start on the road to such scientific advancement, so He interferred with people's ability to communicate. Computers are reversing this language problem.

Please don't assume I am anti-science...I think some scientific "advances" are good and some are evil.

I'm awaiting the appearance of the two witnesses, who will be killed and raised from the dead, but I know God works in His own time. With satellites, the whole world will be able to see this.

2 interesting facts that have occurred this year that lead me to believe we are atleast leaning toward the end times are: EU and the 1 money currency now adopted throughout Europe; and the passage of a chip that can tell who you are and stats about you that may or may not be the beginning of the "mark of the beast" encryption...Events are definitely unfolding!

Tracking all the companies,subsidiaries,offshores and agents and people involved takes you to SeaBrook Nuclear,Cayman Islands,England,France,Dubai,Lebanon and all points on the compass!

As an atheist,all I can do is laugh at "the mark of the beast"!

I can only hope that the end of ALL religion comes in my lifetime!

I'm of the persuasion that we are most likely in the end times. There are reasons for this.

1) Israel reestablished in 1948. (According to scripture, not all those living during this time will pass away before Christ's return)

2) Globalism Widespread: From the EU, one currency, to talks of an America's Union, to corrupt politicians who are not doing things for their own country, but for a worldwide interest, it seems increasingly obvious.

3)Microchips?

4)Increased technology. (The Bible talks about a rapid rise in knowledge in the end times, as opposed to the rest of history. Look at the past fifty years compared to 1000 before it).

5)Soddom & Gomorra like atmosphere. (There is no lack of the amount of sexual perversion and immorality that now emblazens televisions, general talk, etc. Furthermore, immoral lifestyles such as homosexuality are being given equal status, and speaking out against homosexuality can get you put in jail in certain countries. Also, check out the pervasive sexual nature of many of our country's children and teens. Things that would have been unheard of for certain age groups are now happening frequently.

These are just a few, but I believe that we are in the season for Christ's return.

Hmmmm, Lets see, we have a united europe, an emerging world system of government through the UN/WTC, we've got half of congress supporting amnesty for illegal aliens along with our president, and both are discussing the easing of our border rules so that "free travel of people and goods" can be accomplished.

There is more discussion of a continental trade zone which would bring about a greater push for a unification of north and south America into a EU styled system.

Bush was on C-Span the other day talking about the values of "free-trade". He hinted at the idea that the U.S. was losing out because we have only entered into three "free-trade" compacts, as opposed to some European countries who have entered into thirty. He's playing the American people for idiots, claiming that this "free-trade" is all about competition. That's complete garbage, for "Free-Trade" is nothing but a way to bring about global government through economic zones, which will give rise to an economic regional currency (EU style), which then will give rise to governence, etc. Furthermore, "Free-Trade" only benefits the globalists and the heads of multinational corporations. The people of all countries lose, especially those of the first world such as the United States. Meanwhile, we have slaves in third world countries producing our garments, goods, etc., our industrial sector dries up, along with the jobs, and with all of this comes higher taxation, inflation, and more welfare to make up for the loss of jobs and the trade imbalance that produces a high debt.

It's sad that so many here at FreeRepublic support FreeTrade, especially when it is a catalyst into declining American Sovereignty, not to mention all the negative things attached to it. However, if it is part of the plan, of which I believe that it is, then it's going to happen anyway. Yet, as Christians, and as Americans, we still have to do our part.

I couldnt agree more. Its so hard for me to think about this, but I believe that GW Bush does believe we are fools in that we are incapable of seeing the actual agenda behind free trade.

As the US free trade zone expands, the call will go out for a common currency between member countries..

Then, once in place, our "leaders" will suggest we should have a common government between all member countries involved in the so called free trade zone.
