 My point is there has been some sparring between science
and virtually every other intellectual endeavor. So it should not
be entirely surprising if there weren't a bit of that between
science and Christianity.

How silly.  By using poetic whining vs the scientific method,
this goof then says,' small wonder religion and science have
had a bit of skirmishing. '  The fact is that religion has been
warring with science in the longest running battle in human
history.  Just the concept of the number zero was the basis
for religious chicanery, not to mention virtually every other
instance of reality breaking into metaphysics.  Science
versus literature?  Spare me.
