The really sad thing is that in about 10 years this deaf child gets to ask - "Mom, does this mean I could have been born able to hear the birds, Beethoven, and a babbling brook?"

Well, she'll hear Beethoven much as he did. But then again, the parents may reject Beethoven on principle as another "dead white(?) European male".
