Is it curious that this story, about a New Jersey gay couple, comes out of the London papers, and NOT a US paper....has anyone done a search?

I think the WA Post had a very long article on this, several pages supposedly very compassionate to the witches. I am not sure, this is just what I seem to remember.

There are a number of groups who appear to have championed this couple.

Here's the first birth announcement:
Deaf Queer Resource Center (this is no joke and from the mother herself):

Deaf and Outspoken

This story introduces two deaf couples from the gay and lesbian communities who know the challenges of being both gay and hearing impaired. Partners Sharon Duchesneau and Candace McCullough are both deaf. Robert Rourke is deaf, while his partner, Edward Aldrich is hearing. We also meet the men's two deaf Dalmatians, who have been taught to respond to sign language. Through their unique experiences, ITL explores issues such as parenting, prejudice, and identity within the gay community.

Link to the Washington Post article/interview (31March2001):

A World of Their Own In the eyes of his parents, if Gauvin Hughes McCullough turns out to be deaf, that will be just perfect

Please limit your quotes from the WP article if anyone chooses to read it as there is a restriction on FR's use of WP material. There is this tidbit about their employment: "both professionals in the mental health field". The inmates seem to be running the asylum these days.

One more quote: "And in many cases, the aim is to produce not so much a superior baby as a specific baby. A white baby. A black baby. A boy. A girl."

In China, where parents are restricted to one child, there are parents who will abort a girl child (or drown her soon afterwards). But then, we can't question the actions of parents who only want to produce a "specific" baby.
