When I was a child, I read a book called Watchwords of Liberty. Basically, they were a selection of famous phrases spoken by Americans - "I shall never surrender nor retreat"; "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country"; "I have not yet begun to fight"; the Declaration of Independence and the Preamble to the Constitution. It was very moving and really said a lot about the power of words to fight for freedom. I believe that if the book is ever re-issued (it was, as I recall, about thirty years old) it will include "Let's Roll". Now we're getting the other side. I hope these terrorists felt in their last minutes, a small fraction of the fear that their victims had to face.
