For us non-Texans, what does this mean?
To: WillaJohns
'Blowhard-and-legend-in-his-own-mind' Ron Kirk is squeaking
by a geography teacher who thinks George W. Bush is an idiot.

These a very early and the South Texas votes that will more than likely go 60-70% for Morales will put him over the top.
For you non-Texans, the state Rats are hoping having Sanchez as the Governor, former comptroller John Sharp who is liked by the good ol yellow dog Rats, and Kirk who is black on one ticket will get the minority vote out in large numbers in order to win back some power in the state. Ethnic pandering to it's worse but I am afraid it might work because the stupid state GOP has been asleeep all this time.

Ron Kirk for the most part is a commie. Another GOP sweep in November.

Nothing - it's a runoff between one Hispanic Democrat against a Black Democrat! It's not the General Election. Whoever wins this election will face the Republican candidate (Cornyn) for the Senate seat (Phil Gramm's).

Has South TX reported yet?
To: WillaJohns
The democRAT party has been pushing hard for Kirk.
Their "dream team" is Kirk (a black) for Senator and Sanchez (an hispanic) for Governor. That way all of the black racists (i.e., blacks who will vote for a candidate based solely on the color of his skin) and hispanic racists (hispanics who will vote for a candidate based solely on the color of his skin) will be motivated to get out and vote.

I don't know. But it won't matter. Kirk is almost up by 10 now. It's over.

"Tony Sanchez is white."
The hispanic community down here that will vote for him regardless of his issues doesn't think so.
To: The South Texan
Sure they will. But he'll get blown out November.

When did Texas start having state elections on Tuesday?
To: WillaJohns
Even us Texans don't know what this means.
I mean, I would have voted in this run-off if I could have figured out which candidate which have been easier for the Republican Senatorial candidate, John Cornyn, to beat.
But I couldn't. It's basically the Black vote versus the Mexican vote. I think the Mexican population is larger (maybe - maybe, I should know), but not as likely to vote.
Kirk is more of a mainstream guy ... he was a fairly innocuous mayor of Dallas; the main thing I have against him is that he is a dem and we can't afford any more democrat senators.
gotta gid rid of The Daschle.

Ron Kirk for the most part is a commie Yes... another Lee P. Brown -- except Kirk seems to be able to form nearly-complete sentences.... a skill that Brown still has not mastered.

When did Texas start having state elections on Tuesday?About the same time we started having National Elections on Tuesday. First Tuesday after the First Monday in November and all that ........
To: Bubba_Leroy
Kirk has put out an all-out telephone barrage in the last few days. I have received (recorded) phone calls from Ann Richards; Emmitt Smith and three from Kirk.
I would guess that with the computer dialing and the computer message that this is a cost effective way to campaign.
The other dude had no money and not much organization. If he wins it will be an interesting tribute to the power of the Mexican vote.

Uh uh. Twenty years ago when I lived there (after the nationalizing of the dates) it was Saturday. This is fairly recent.
