Arabfat won't make peace with any Israeli leader, not with Good Cop Barak, not with Bad Cop Sharon, not with anyone. Israel must be exterminated -- that's been Arabfat's unwavering endgame from day one.

And Koffi Anan is always firing blanks at the wrong target anyway...

"There probably can't be peace with Sharon around either. The best thing that could happen would be for both of them to step down. "
Lets not forget that Sharon came to power after this war had already began. If "peace" means giving up all of the West Bank, half of Jerusalem and letting in millions of phony refugees (ie giving in to all of Arafat's wishes)there will not be peace. But I could see him offering something along the lines of the Camp David plan minus any part of Jerusalem.

I agree, I think. I don't know - the whole thing is such a mess.
OH NO, I just heard Powell said that Israel should give Arafat more space so he can communicate with other Palestinian leaders. SAY WHAT?
Just heard Netanyahu also and he said there is no policy dispute with the Bush administration, just a dispute over timing. Hmmmm.

Netanyahu will eventually replace Sharon.
But Arafat, IMHO, is the major problem in the MidEast right now, and he is the one we have to deal with first.

Arafat wasn't elected popularly. He was chosen by members of his council/organization or whatever the term would be. This is what I have been hearing on cable news programs.

There probably can't be peace with Sharon around either. The best thing that could happen would be for both of them to step down. In case you haven't noticed, Sharon is an elected leader. So if he does something the Israeli people don't like, then they get to vote him out of office. Given that Sharon is enjoying more popularity now than he ever has, in effect what you are saying is that there can't be peace with the Israeli people as long as they keep voting Sharon into office. Is that really what you mean?

Arafat wants the 'right of return.' This is impossible for Israel to accept. If Palestinians are allowed to return they will overrun the Israelis and in effect, destroy the Israeli nation. Of course, this is the primary objective of Arafat.

Yes, he was 'selected' and has now become the 'accepted' leader of the Palestinians. He wasn't elected by the people.

You know, I wish that someone in the Bush administration would call a spade and spade, and tell the American people and the world that the real agenda of Arafat (and the Arab nations) is to eradicate Israel from the Middle East. There is enough evidence of this that even Marcia Clark could get a conviction.

"There probably can't be peace with Sharon around either. The best thing that could happen would be for both of them to step down. " Agreed. The standoff has to end somewhere. If leaders of both sides are so obstinate, they need to be replaced with others who are more amenable to discussions (and/or concessions.)

Just heard Netanyahu also and he said there is no policy dispute with the Bush administration, just a dispute over timing.Indeed. Did he just let something out that probably shouldn't have been out?

Israel will takew their military and invade Syria and Lebanon and Iraq and destroy those governments...
Sharon and Israel will never kill Arafat...
To: Recovering_Democrat
Perhaps the plan is for Sharon to roll into Syria, toppling Assad. That solves the problem of the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, and with a friendly regime in Damascus, the stage is set to take out Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Israeli tanks could roll into Damascus in a couple of days - they were on the outskirts in the 1967 war.

Thanks You! You succinctly put into words what every single member on this board, and quite frankly what every other person whom follows the news should realize.
Why the h-e-double hockey sticks do we give a rats a$$ what these tyrants, sand jockeys and oil magnates think about our attack on Iraq? Here are a few facts for general consumption:
- Iraq HAS WMD, no doubt. Period.
- Iraq will AT THE VERY LEAST attack Israel with missiles, maybe with WMD
- Israel cannot and will not stay on the sidelines if attacked again. To ask them to be humiliated again with attacks on their nation without retaliating would be beyond hypocrisy. The Israelis see the current conflict as literally a struggle for their very survival, and they will not take Scuds being lobbed into Tel Aviv without exacting some much deserved revenge.
- Saudi Arabia WILL NEVER stop selling us oil, even if they aren't on board for the coming Iraq war. It would literally destroy their economy, thus allowing the unwashed masses to run the House of Saud out of town.
- Iran, Syria, Lebanon, etc, etc, already hate our guts anyways. Why bother smooching their asses when it comes to the Israeli conflict?
- Therefore, we, as you so bluntly and correctly put it, must stop the charade.
The middle east is quickly turning into our new 'communism'. Regardless of what Colin Powell says or whom he meets, it is beyond repair. Why bother beating around the bush? Let Iran, Iraq, Syria bitch and moan all they want. Park the 5th fleet at Haifa and declare Israel the 'Turkey' of the new 'islamist' era.
