Both McCormack and Daily have been named as defendants in several civil lawsuits filed in connection with Geoghan's molestations. These suits accuse them of negligence for allegedly knowing of the abuse and doing nothing to stop it. Also named were Bishop William F. Murphy of Rockville Centre, N.Y., and Archbishop Alfred C. Hughes of New Orleans.

These priests tell parishioners to confess sins for the good of their soul. As supposed men of God, they should be confessing, but they have helped men of evil to do evil and they are lawyering up.

I guess we should be thankful that there are official records that belie the coverup, lest these derelict bishops profane the sacrament of confession by hiding behind the seal of confession.

You said it here, all right. I think they believed they were above the rules and weren't required to confess regularly. And their behavior is an indicator, to my mind, just what happens when people cut themselves off from the grace of the sacrament of penance. The sinful parts get HARD, like calluses. The conscience becomes seared, as it says in the Bible.
