A 17-year-old Catholic student has announced that he is suing the school board for $100,000 after he was refused permission to invite his 21-year-old boyfriend to the prom.
TOPICS: Culture/Society
KEYWORDS: education; gayrights; religion
Lots of unanswered questions here and the silence over them from the usual suspects is deafening.
1. Knowing where the church stands regarding his lifestyle, why does he insist on remaining a Catholic and why did he choose to attend a Catholic school?
2. Why is everybody arguing that a tax-funded institution shouldn't discriminate, but nobody seriously challenges the idea of giving tax dollars to one religious institution but not any others?
3. Why is nobody raising eyebrows about the boyfriend's age? I'm fairly certain that most of the lefties who are supporting this pair would claim that a relationship between a teenage girl and a man in his 20s is exploitative.
4. What is the hundred grand supposed to accomplish? Does he not realize that if he wins it won't be the school officials who are being punished, but his fellow students?
5. Finally, if the 21-year-old wants the church's blessing to fool around with and underage boy why doesn't he join the priesthood?

Is this for real? If so, WHO CARES??????? Oh wait, now if this goes through, then it will set a legal precedent. That would mean I could sue my old bosses for making me work on days that I could have been goofing off with my Ex-Girlfriend. God what a country...

"
God, what a country!"
Actually, it appears from the story in the link that this happened in the Great White North.
And we all know how progressive they are up there, eh?

If he wins they are essentially saying Catholism is against the law. (or any other conservative religion)

I think he will lose his suit. This kid knew before he asked the question.

Exactly. I've been following the story for a couple of weeks now and the general consensus has been that if he simply showed up with his date there wouldn't have been a problem (forgiveness being easier to obtain than permission and all that). This incident was pure grandstanding from the get-go; he was fully aware that he could have taken his buddy to the prom and he also knew that if he asked first they would say no. He just wanted his name in the paper and that's exactly what he got.
