What's this? Honesty and sanity from the White House?

Sounds like George Bush escaped the clutches of his evil twin.

I, too, am pleased. However, I am not unaware of how "convenient" this is for our interests in the region. Chavez, you'll recall, was cozying up with the Chinese -- who have not been shy about expanding their influence in the region.

It would not surprise me a bit to discover that the we had people who were active among the opposition, and in contact with the Venezuelan military.

This is indeed great news that the embryonic communist dictator was deposed. I was initially surprised that Chavez would step down, so there is no doubt the military made him an offer he couldn't refuse. :-)

"What is your take on the "bless the CIA" angle?"

It's the old American ego in action, the idea that nothing happens in thois world that we didn't have a hand in.

This was the people of Venezuela simply saying "enough"!

I see that the stupid little leftist myth has taken hold in conservative circles. Yeah, the same CIA which help this country avert a disaster on September 11. "The Soviet Union is in great shape" - CIA in 1990. CIA my athlete's foot!

Causes for optimism: Angola: Recent killing of Savimbi opens way for Chevron deep sea oil drilling. Venezuela: Recent coup means no castro lefty in power; They start pumping hard and fast to us. Combined with Russia's oil, we can now deal properly with the Saooods

So Fidel loses another protege' in Latin America, eh? Time now to smash his friends in Colombia--the FARC "Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias Columbianas." And then, with Cuba isolated, we can do a rumba on Fidel's face.

What Bush shoulkd do is send a delegation down there and support free elections and snuggle up to these guys and show OPEC that we arent their slaves and that we can get by without them.
