Turkey sends Israel Message of Condolence
Aksam Online ^ | 13 Apr 2002 | Ministry of Foreign Affairs

13 April - In response to the recent suicide attacks, Turkey has strongly condemned these acts of terrorism and conveyed its condolences to Israel. The statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said " We strongly condemn the acts of terrorism which have been committed on April 10th near Haifa and more recently near Jerusalem in which many innocent people have been killed and many more wounded and would like to express our condolences to the People and Government of Israel."

In the statement, it was pointed out that the fact that the recent terrorist attack in Jerusalem was carried out during the visit of the United States Secretary of State Colin Powell in conjunction with international peace efforts openly displayed that these crimes were committed to serve to purposes of those opposing peace. It was also stated that: "Turkey demands that these suicide attacks which do not serve the Palestinian cause be stopped immediately, that a ceasefire be declared, that Israel withdraw from the regions it has recently occupied and that the two sides immediately return to the negotiating table."

Bump for decent Islamic news

The statement is rational. Such a rarity from both the "Islamic" and European sides. Wonder if the Axis core of Germany and France have offered the same.

So far this is the only statement I've seen saying that the bombings were meant to oppose peace, rather than "an expression of humiliation, etc. etc."

Bump for decent Islamic news.

I lift a glass to that.
Seeing how Germany is now busy preaching to Israel about non-violence and
France can't hide their longing for a return of the Vichy...I won't be vacationing
anywhere in Continental Europe...maybe ever.

And for un-informed lurkers (as I've said before): The Israeli Air Force has an
agreement with a country that allows them more airspace to "open the throttle" on their jets.

I suspect not one American in a thousand would know that the name of that country is:
Turkey.

The only sane voice of the Koanics comes from the Turks. I wonder why. Perhaps because the Turks are more Turkish than Islamists?

Bump for balanced Islamic views, and a bump for a sane Islamic country.

Israel also is providing Turkey with upgrades to many of its weapons systems, most notably the F-4 Phantom and F-16s, but other systems also. Israel and Turkey have long standing good relations. Turkey's good relations with Jews go all the way back to when the Spanish kicked most Jews out of Spain, 1492 or thereabouts. Some of the earliest migrations of Jews back to Palistine came via Turkey and/or when Turkey controlled the area.

The U.S. Armed forces have been hiring Turkish labor for years. We had some of their folks in Germany in 1971. LOL! They would really stink up the barracks with their cooking in their rooms.(memories)They also showered in a diaper looking garment.

Who knows? But I doubt it. Unless they are being put up to be the sensible face of Islam, which I doubt. All the Turks I've met in my life have been very sensible.
