Is this a problem with Windows XP? If so, what steps do I take?

One reason why I use mail2web.com is precisely this e-mail virus problem. I simply log in to mail2web.com and give them my e-mail address and password and I can access my e-mail from there. It will work for many ISPs including mine (Earthlink which now owns CyberGate). Also it is a lot quicker way of deleting the loads of junk e-mail which I receive plus e-mail bearing viruses. The other advantage is that I can access my e-mail from any computer which I often do from library or school computers.

Anyway, check out web2mail.com. It solves lots of problems.

Oh, after I use mail2web.com, the e-mail that I don't delete and that I want to keep will show up on my Outlook Express the next time I open it.

I'm waiting for a virus attachment called "VIRUS.EXE" I bet people will still run the damn thing.

Count on it. It will happen because far too many people refuse to take the time and effort to examine the full filenames of attachments. They are too eager to see what the attachment is. There are some serious Darwin candidates out there.

"Never open an unsolicited attachment with any of the following file types: .EXE, .COM, .BAT, .PIF, .LNK, .VBS, .VBE, .REG, .CMD, or .SCR"

An even better rule to remember is to never open any attachment without first saving it to a disk and running a virus scan on the file. You can't rely too much on the extension because some people will hide them, for example by naming the file sexyscreensaver.txt.exe - in this case the file would look like a .txt file in your e-mail window but it is really an .exe file. Scan first, then open.

I think you need to look up the word "deadly".

Hows this for a solution.

I give anyone that wishes to e-mail me the URL for FreeRepublic.com,
tell them to sign on as a member, and then send me FReepmail at ASA Vet.

If they're not interested in becoming FReepers, I'm not interested in getting their mail.

It's a problem for the very prevalent viruses that use VBS to do their deed (Love bug, Love Let-A, et al.)

I believe removing it from XP would be similar to W2K/ME/NT. Try here:

Disabling Windows Scripting Host

I used to have Eudora 5.02 which is an excellent mail client program, but my cable company stopped supporting it so I am stuck with Outlook Express. But with my Norton anti virus program and my Zone Alarm pro I have no problem. It checks my incomming mail and my outgoing mail for viruses

I got an email the other day that scared the sh!t out of me:

AMISH VIRUS - You have just received the Amish Virus. Since we do not have electricity nor computers, you are on the honor system. Please delete all of your files.

Thank thee.

Norton anti virus program and my Zone Alarm pro

This morning I had to tone down some of the Zone Alarm pro features, it wasn't even letting my own website display.
It was driving me nuts trying to find why the new things I'd uploaded wouldn't display properly.
I'm also running AdSubtract Pro and had to turn off some of that.
Between the Norton, Zone AlarmPro, and AdSubtract Pro, I'm lucky to be allowed to sign on to FR.
