Actually I came up with a good application for one of these cameras and have a mini-project started.
I'll be meeting with the guy who set up the Bandon webcam.
A live Bandon Oregon "Scan-Cam"
The Coast Guard base in Coos Bay looks at this cam when they have to send a boat to Bandon
(and from late May till mid Sept they station a 47' boat full time.)
My "idea" is to get one of these cameras in the tower overlooking the Coos Bay entrance.
It would not replace the tower watch,
but it would allow the OOD etc to view the bar entrance from their desk at any given time.
Once I get this project going I'll put a page on the internet with links to both cams.
Then boaters and the Coast Guard will be able to see the real time bar conditions.

Just be sure to clean the lens on a daily basis. The ones up and down the Oregon coast were so salt soaked, that I quit going to them. The one at Brookings never changed, you couldn't tell if people were having coffee 75' or if you were looking at sea gull poop mixed with dry and wet salty sea water.
