Why do not Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, who overtly and stealthily war along side the Palestinians, simply all join with the former to gang up and declare war openly on Israel and then settle the issue on the battlefield? ?

This one, though, has a very simple answer: The 'open war' he's recommending; the arab states know clearly that they would lose immediately. It is precisely for that reason that first Arafat bargained for all he could under Clinton, and then when he'd gotten as much as was feasable (giving NOTHING in return), he returned to the steath war 'intefada' or if you prefer: 'suicide bombers' to advance a few more yards.
He's playing for real. We in the West just haven't figured out his play book yet.
I agree with what you said. And I'll add that most of those Arab states have found a much more effective way of dealing with their Israeli "problem". They keep the Palestinian people impoverished, and then bribe them into homicidal attacks with paychecks worth less than most Americans pay in taxes. They keep Israel bleeding, and never lose a man. The good news...Arabs have an excess of two things...money and laziness and they are running out of money.
