I did a quick search while posting this but didn't find it. I'm certain he said it, Mahoney said it, even our local priests here are saying it! It has become one of the US hierarchy's "talking points" it seems, because it is being repeated so often. They know their goose is cooked, and the Vatican has indicated that they know what the problem is and its solution: "No more gay priests, and if you don't get them the heck out, we're going to declare their Holy Orders invalid." At least that's how I interpret the Vatican's remarks.

What would the consequences of that be? If their ordinations were invalid, then every sacrament they performed would be invalid as well, correct? How could any Catholic ever be certain, then, that his child had been validly baptized?
