On that day last year the United States suffered its first death ever from a biological warfare attack.I'm willing to bet at least one person in the United States has been murdered at some point in history by someone with a grudge with a poisoned snake, spider, or some other beastie. Heck, siccing your dog on someone is a form of biowarfare.

Osama said in
one of his videos "Only seven grammes of explosives are needed to kill someone, but the United States has used bombs weighing seven million grammes."
When this first came out, I thought he was making fun of the number of lethal doses in each bag of Anthrax. It sounded similar to what Leahy and others were saying in their press conferences.

As to why target the Democrats only,
1. Percieved as weak and perhaps less concerned with security, and therefore more likely to miss detection.
2. Intended to cause some type of discord and animosity between democrats and republicans, or to be a red herring to divert suspicion to some domestic right wing "McVeigh" type of attack.
The rest of the high profile targets are all legit symbols of American culture.

The issue of why DemocRats only is fascinating to explore. IMHO it goes to why we were attacked in the first place. Recall that bin Laden's first video statements made no mention of Israel... instead he seemed animated by (1) centuries-old grievances, (2) the presence of US forces in his holy land of Saudi Arabia, and (3) the corruption, decadence and immorality he perceived in America.
And if corruption, decadence and immorality were in any way motivating the terrorists, then certainly liberal Democrats would be at greatest initial risk from nutjobs like bin Laden and his followers.
Simple logic.

Richard A. Muller, a 1982 MacArthur Fellow, is a professor in the Physics Department at UC-Berkeley where he teaches a course entitled, "Physics for future Presidents". He is also a faculty senior scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. How can somebody so bright be so dumb? The letters were self-identified as anthrax, an even included instructions on treatment. They were not attacks, but exactly what they appeared to be -- threats to perpetrate attacks. How can anybody still not have figured this out after six months?
