U.S. ties future Palestinian aid to terror fight

    WASHINGTON, April 16 (Reuters) - The Bush administration 
announced on Tuesday it would tie future aid to the 
Palestinians to their success in fighting terrorism. 
    In a memorandum signed by President George W. Bush, the 
administration agreed to let the Palestine Liberation 
Organization maintain offices in Washington, and authorized 
humanitarian and trade assistance for the Palestinian people 
for the next six months. 
    But the administration said future U.S. aid would be 
contingent on the PLO cracking down on terrorism as Bush has 
demanded. "We will be watching Palestinian compliance very 
closely," an official said. 
    Under U.S. law, aid for the Palestinians must be renewed 
every six months. 
    The announcement comes as Secretary of State Colin Powell 
is in the Middle East trying to negotiate a cease-fire between 
the Israelis and Palestinians to end 18 months of violence that 
has killed at least 1,274 Palestinians and 452 Israelis.

And I was thinking the CNN TV report might not have been true.

One part is a little false, the part about the PLO being able to keep it's DC digs. I read that just a couple days ago, they were evicted for being multiple months behind in paying rent. The PLO said it had to be because of anti-Arab predjudice, since, after all, they have been plenty behind in rent before and not been evicted. I guess that now we are giving them this new round of "humanitarian aid," they should be able to sell the U.S. provided food in the souk (what they don't give to their terrorist soldiers), and take the profits to pay for a new rented office in DC.
