Wasn't the West Bank originally allocated to Israel by the U.N. and then Jordan took it and Israel took it back? If so, then it is rightfully Israel's. Anyone know?

This is one of those rare instances where FReepers will defend the UN to the last man.

Yeah, wouldn't it be great in a huge audience of liberals to shout out "It's time Israel got back to it's original borders!" And, after they shout agreement, pull out a map with Israel's original borders containing the West Bank. Not one in a hundred people seems to know this little tidbit of info. Some of the people involved want Israel to return to it's "pre-1967 border". That's why I checked it out to find out why they didn't say "original borders".

There is one more important fact to remember. In the entire history of the world, NEVER has a negotiated peace resulted in a stable lasting peace. I can think of at least one exception to this: the War of 1812 between America and Great Britain (modern Canada) ended in the ultimate in negotiated peace, the status quo ante bellum, and America, Great Britain, and modern Canada have pretty much had a stable lasting peace ever since. But there is no question that this is more the exception than the rule.
