Yes, the federal government, rife with it's myriad of self-anointed demagogues, has become exactly the same bloated, tyrannical entity that the founding fathers feared it would someday become.

I would start by stopping payment of "income" taxes. The federal government has so much power (and concomitant disregard for the Constitution and Bill of Rights) because Americans give it all (well, 50 percent-plus, anyway) of their money.
