There could be two reasons why this story did not go national.

1) It would serve as a semi-official notice that Riot Season has begun early this year, thus inspiring similar performance art elsehwere in The Peaceable Kingdom.
2) Black-on-White crime is not news in the U.S. It is a way of life.
