It probably won't redound the democrats' disadvantage in any general electoral way, however, as public expectations for black "leaders" and officials are so low that things like this pass as normal.

I think there's a way the DemocRATs can be made to pay. Start insisting that they expel her from their caucus, or otherwise discipline her. If they don't, she's an issue to use against them. If they do, they lose black votes.
