Chavez, a charismatic populist

whew....he's not "feisty"--this time he's "charismatic." that's better.

Baltazar Porres, a senior Catholic bishop whom Chavez turned to for protection on the night of the coup, said last week's violence was a "machete blow to the soul of the Venezuelan people"

that may be the most graphic political analogy I've heard in a while. This reminds me of the medieval debates about the location of the soul in the body and about what it looked like. We may have a new question: what does the soul look like after a machete blow?
