Wonderful article - it pretty much sums up what I've been feeling for several months, but haven't been able to articulate in one swell foop.
The only problem with having this attitude is that it will lead to isolation of the USA, and a re-ordering of European, Mideast and Asian alliances if we don't pay attention. We have to stay engaged, but we need to keep our priorities in line.

Excellent summation of the situation.

Marvelous article and right on. The news for Europe is not pretty. Religious discrimination and vandalism in the streets, and the leftists being defeated in France and Germany may indicate that European moral relativism and international socialism is on the wane.
Tony Blair is doing right politically by sticking to his relatively hawkish stance on Iraq and remaining at least silent about the Israel-Palestinian conflict. He may not go down in defeat to the right, but I bet that his crusade to join the EURO is on hold for a while yet.

Americans for the first time in my memory seem not to care a whit what Europeans think to the great consternation of our elites on the East Coast. Heartland Americans think the French are ridiculous, and seem almost to welcome Gallic disdain. Here is another consequence of the election of 2000 - and the leadership of George W Bush. The heartland does not feel powerless against the effete elite of the East - and Europe (further East ) is totallly irrelevant in their socialism to the strength of America.
Consider the 'peace and quiet' in Pakistan and India at present. They have decided that allying with a Strong USA is better than stirring the religious pot between themselves right now.
