U.S. President George W. Bush helped repair a trail and build a footbridge along the Au Sable River at the base of Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks on a snowy Earth Day today. He traveled to upstate New York to launch his "Clear Skies" initiative aimed at combating air pollution.
Also today President Bush handed out awards at the National Medal of Arts Ceremony at Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. to such people as singer Johnny Cash, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, director Mike Nichols, illustrator Jose Cisneros, painter Helen Frankenthaler, child psychologist Robert Coles, artistic director Judith Jamison, writer Rudolfo Anaya, author Tom Wolfe, and actor Kirk Douglas.

I need to start sub-folders of html stuff. Yep, that's what I need to do. And ORGANIZE it! Now that I've learned to collect it, it's sorta hodge-podge in a Word Doc. Or two. Or three.

Do either of you feel like we're the last 3 to leave the party?

I finally figured out what it is about Laura's right-now haircut that is so appealing. She has a terrific jawline and her stylist cuts and fixes her hair so that it sweeps into a perfect line to make her lovely neck look even more attractive.

Goof. theses = these. Come on! Glad you clarified that. For a moment I thought Gollum sneaked in here.

one thing you never see Al Gore or Bill Clinton cutting woods at Enviorment, trees everything else One thing for sure Dubya know how cut that wood remind me of certain guy named Ronnie Reagan To me, W's athleticism and love of the outdoors speak volumes about his balance as a human being, compared against x42 and x42's x-veep.

Remember the night we stayed up till 5:00 or so, outside in the cold, different sides of the USofA, looking heavenward????? Every now & then, I'll be outside at night and think of us on that thread. We can reprise that moment from now till May 14 as five planets -- Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Venus, and Mercury -- move into something of a line above and below the moon, visible in the northern hemisphere. Best visibility is at twilight, toward the western horizon. Next occurrence: 2040.

Thanks for the planet line up picture. We were out yesterday trying to figure out what part of the sky to check. Now we know. Westward, HO!

A friend and I were outside the other night and we could see Venus (ever so bright!) beneath the moon well before sunset. I am looking forward to seeing them all come into line. The link I copied, above, has a description of how it will all look, what colors the planets will tend to show up as, what types of camera settings will take the best photos, etc. Mercury will just sort of skim over the top of the horizon line and be visible each night for the least amount of time.

You're up? I thought I was the only night owl. Generally only kattracks and JohnHuang2 are around at this hour.

I am a big Johnny Cash fan. He has been suffering from a rare Parkinson like disease for a number of years. (I think it is called Dragers syndrome). It is a very serious neurologic disease. He was just recently discharged from a hospital; the press release said he was treated for pneumonia but that red face sure looks like post-radiation treatment. I am almost positive it is not a sunburn as he has been too ill to sun bathe even though he has a retreat in Jamaica.
Thanx for clarifying. I meant no disrespect to Mr. Cash, as my post was meant to be lighthearted, but when I saw his red face, it immediately reminded me of the Fox News make up artists. While the women of that channel always look stunning, the men, it appears, always have way too much foundation on.

Sorry to hear Cash is so ill. The man has had a hard life.

Does anyone know how old Johnny Cash is? I did a quick search and he celebrated his 70th birthday in February.

Excellent!! Thanks. Will have to save the ones with snow. Love it. Snow storm on Earth Day while promoting global warming.
