Don't lists like these only trivialize the rights we do have? Ever-increasing rights-talk makes rights look more and more like wish lists rather than sound principles with intellectual foundations. We don't need lists like these, any more than we need lists saying "I have the right to pet my dog" or "I have the right to want a mountain cabin resort with trained flying caribou"

If intellectuals were a profession, it would probably be better to call them a code of ethics. Here on FR we could simply demand that people adhere by ignoring those who don't.

I agree with your point that we can trivialize the concept of rights, but there does need to be a context in which to restore the civility to debate. I'm wide open to your suggestions.
