When I have trouble determining where someone is a "she" or "he", I just refer to "it"

So, the old saw "People have sex, language has gender" no longer has teeth? I have never used "gender" to refer to men and women. I taught my children the same rule of thumb. I suppose this public admission has marked me out for a re-education camp somewhere
