I think that your analysis is excellent, and a bit too close for comfort. The Wahabi sect brought the Kingdom of Saud into being and has been keeping it there for a very long time, and is very generously recompensed for its efforts in that direction. It is from this originally ascetic and still extremist sect that the staffing of the madrassas stems, and it is they who are responsible for those schools' virulently anti-American curricula.

And yes, it's a coverup operation. The Saudis are desperate to deflect criticism of their own fiscal and foreign policies. For half a century the wealth of the West has poured into their pockets and (1) there is still widespread poverty in the Arab world, (2) their Palestinian "brothers" are still living in camps, and (3) their own standard of living is falling with the increasing birth rate and failure to create economic diversity resulting in a plummeting per capita income. In short, they've enjoyed the greatest unearned economic windfall in recorded history and they have squandered it.

They need us as scapegoats, and they need the Israelis as lightning rods. Their propagandists will call for driving Israel into the sea, but that is the very worst thing that could actually happen from their point of view, because it would become glaringly obvious that even after victory nothing would change. The royal family will try its best to sustain the status quo...and nothing more.

I think some of them do. I think there is a split in the Saudi royal family as well as the Saudi people. Do I think some of them love the Jews? No, but I do think there are some reasonable people out there who realize just how dangerous this situation has become. I think some in the family have been funding terror, but I don't think it has been a government funding (at least not a legal government funding) I think some have been ripping off the Saudi people to feed this monster and have plotted to overthrow the rulers and replace them with....TA DA.....themselves.

I see you are busy defending the Saudi princes who are coming here to deliver an ultimatum to America ...

that those are the true idiots. bush is about the give the prince some straight talk also, stand down or be stepped on. he can embrace hussien as a brother but it will be six feet under ground, that part of the world needs a wake-up call. we should show them a dooms-day scenario. o.k. you use oil as a weapon that is a an act of war, we step in and take your oil fields, we take you out, and install a freindly government and flood your streets with the cash from your personal accounts and the increased oil sales.

Mideast Arabs remind me of Klingons.

They are anachronisms, out of place in a world that has passed them by 100 years ago.

Prince Abdullah will be the peacemaker, bringing tremendous prestige to his country and worldwide admiration. He will negotiate hard for the Palestinians and Sharon will negotiate hard for the Israelis. In the end there will be peace, Israel will be recognized by the Arab world....

My prediction is that nothing of any substance is coming from Prince Abdullah, though he might succeed in staging a "side show" that papers over the intractible realities of the Israeli-Pali conflict.

The House of Saud has in effect been encouraging its own people to "get radical" over a suffering people -- the Palestinians -- that a rich Arab country like Saudi Arabia could have succored, relocated, even accepted as immigrants to Saudi Arabia (they are always looking for sweat laborers over there...), all in the name of simple humanity.

But no; had that been the case, the Palestinians could never be used as the pawns and tools of Arab anti-Western policy. Angry, ignorant, starving, disaffected Palestinians make for a highly valuable "commodity" in the competition with the West. Plus the House of Saud has a reason to keep its own people distracted -- to keep them from complaining about their own corrupt government. (PRC is doing the same thing -- loudly, constantly demonizing the U.S. and Israel as a way of establishing "national solidarity" against the West; this ploy -- this constant drumbeat of an "external enemy" -- helps keep the Chinese people in line, instead of going after the corrupt gerontocrats in the Politburo....)

Abdullah has no reason (other than oil revenues) to give a fig about the U.S.; and he thinks he's got some real leverage with that "oil weapon" of his -- a big stick to beat the U.S. with. (In his imagination at least.) To the extent that we disproportionately (and quite effectively) support the Jewish state, he has every incentive to reduce Anerican influence in the region. And probably the best way to do that is to get us to buy a bill of goods that is "all show" -- as if intoning the "P" word (for 'Peace') is all you need to do to settle the PLO/Israeli "differences," and to establish a permanent condition of international comity....

Abdullah is selling rhetoric, propaganda; unfortunately, no one's figured out yet how to live in rhetoric/propaganda. What "sounds great" is often the worst sort of Hell in practice -- if history is any guide. Plus I've noticed that, the folks who are crying the "P" word loudest these days seem to be the ones with the bloodiest hands.

I hope Bush tears this grandstanding, corrupt fraud a new *ssh*l*. But he probably won't: He's too much of a man of honor, a gentleman. Still, Abdullah seems to have underestimated our President. That's usually not the "prudent" thing to do. best, bb.

it is important that the Bush administration study Crown Prince Abdullah’s plan with the utmost care

and then slam-dunk it into the nearest round file where it belongs.

Ah, I see, so in order to meet your purity test I must agree with YOU on absolutely everything, if I don't I'm an anti-semite and a terrorist supporter.

Your vicious little tirades are getting tiresome.

Not absolutely everything, but if you don't agree to stand up for Israel in this the equivalent of the 1930s against the new Nazi regimes, that would make you an anti-semite and a terrorist supporter.

Your vicious little tirades are getting tiresome.

I don't think September 11th and the new Nazi Islamic regimes have the same affect on you as they do on us. You probably aren't as direct of a target.

Well, if you'd bothered to check my posts instead of jumping to erroneous conclusions, you'd see that I DO support Israel. I just happen to believe that someday there will be peace and someday Israel will have good relations with their neighbors.

Terrorists are an abomination, but you can't believe that ALL Arabs are terrorists, to do so is to deny God is in charge.

I'm a Christian, I support Israel because they are right, not because of some prophesy about the end days, but because they are in the right on this. I refuse to become a hater just to "prove" my support. If I do that, I am no better than what Israel is fighting right now. Hate is the enemy. Hate is what allows people to sacrifice their children in order to kill innocents. Hate is what keeps people apart when there is no reason why they can't be a blessing to each other. Someday they will be.

You have to have hope. By giving up, by hating, you put stumbling blocks in God's path and deny the gift of peace that is just over the horizon.

I'm sure there is at least 1% of the Arabs who are not terrorists intent on spilling Jewish blood.

Do you think we should love the adversary ?

Do you think our troops in Afghanistand should demonstrate more love for the enemy ?

What do you hear when the bodies drop from the sky to the ground on the WTC video ?

What sound is that ?

Have you forgotten that the LORD is a man of war ?

He is also the Prince of Peace, or have YOU forgotten that. Basically I think the haters and the killers are about 10%, the rest are freightened for their lives. Just like in Afghanistan. Remember how we were told that the people supported the Taliban? Well, that lasted about 5 seconds after the people were freed.

No, I don't believe we have to love our enemy, but I also believe we'd be smart to be able to identify our enemy, because if we "kill them all" we'd be just like them.

Amen to that. America is its own country, we don't have to kiss the butt of Israel any more than that of the Arabs. We're free because of the strength of our culture and our ideals.

Israel has historical factors that make it very combative when pushed, and it's been pushed to its limit. It is the cooler heads in America that can pull peace out of this ultimately. Peace through strength, and not just military strength; moral strength.
