Legislation to ban workplace discrimination against homosexuals is headed to the Senate floor after being approved yesterday by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's committee.

The measure, which would prohibit employers from discriminating based on sexual orientation, is a priority for Senate Democrats who do not know when it will be considered. Mr. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, wants to bring it up before the end of the year.

My gut feeling is that at bottom there is more discrimation against heteros by homos at this point in history than visa versa. Homos have the money. So if this law were really evenhandedly enforced (which it probably would not be in practice), it may have unintended consequences. One intended consequence however is more work for trial lawyers. Their capacity for work is nearly infinite, or to put it another and more economic way, their supply is very elastic.

The measure, which would prohibit employers from discriminating based on sexual orientation

So a funeral director cannot discriminate against an employee who is found to be into necrophilia. And a veterinarian cannot discriminate against an employee is found to be into bestiality. That Teddy Kennedy is one sick goat.

Ask me or my ex about that one. We went to a party a guy I worked with held and nearly everyone except the two of us were gay. They sneered and looked down their noses at us at every opportunity in overt and covert manners. Didn't stay at that party too long.

Religious organizations, small businesses, the military and nonprofit, voluntary groups such as the Boy Scouts would be exempt from the bill's mandate.

They would be exempt this time, but the next round will get them. More incrementalism.

The measure would bar employers, employment agencies and labor organizations from hiring, firing or making compensation decisions based on sexual orientation.

On its face, this legislation protects pedophilia, bestiality, and necrophilia as well. So, a child care center could be sanctioned for refusing to hire a pedophile.

Welcome to America, 2002.
