For raping daughter, man gets probation
Associated Press
April 26, 2002 08:25:00
LUFKIN, Texas - A Texas man convicted of raping his daughter has received the lightest punishment available.
Angelina County jurors have sentenced him to five years probation.
The jury convicted the 32-year-old man Thursday of repeatedly sexually assaulting his 12-year-old daughter.
Jurors could have sentenced him to up to 99 years or life in prison.
A state judge has also ordered the man to have no contact with the girl.
The girl's parents were divorced. Prosecutors say the sexual assaults began during the girl's weekend and summer visits with her father.

My impression also. I would have expected the title to read more like:
For raping daughter, man gets castration

Angelina County jurors have sentenced him to five years probation. There's gotta be more to this story...
Surely these people have more respect for kids than that.
Or am I too much of an optimist?

Omitted from article: "The jury foreman, Fr. Bernard Klupp, was unavailable for comment, as were the other members of the all-Jesuit jury."

I think it is in Nevada that you get mandatory life for the rape of a child under 14.
I also think that that is a wonderful idea.

Man, Lufkin must have changed radically since I was there a few years ago. Must be that Austin influence . . .

All I can do is pray that he was given probabtion because he would not get the death sentence. Maybe the jury decided it would be easier to dispense some REAL justice with the sick bastard out on the streets.
