Woman, 48, gives birth to sextuplets
BELGRADE, Serbia Snezhana Gruich, aged 48, from Stara Pazova, who gave birth to sextuplets this morning is the first-ever woman in Serbia to do so says dr Slobodan Radulovich of the Special Gynecological Hospital in Belgrade.
Mrs. Gruich gave birth at the National Front Clinic in Belgrade. The first baby was a boy he was then followed by four girls and another boy. The weight of the babies is between 550g and 700g. The babies came into the world after 26 weeks of pregnancy and were delivered by a Caesarian cut. They are in a stable condition and there are no health problems to speak of.
"The woman is a first-time mom, is aged 48 and has given birth to sextuplets, which is the only such case in the world" says dr Radulovich.

First time mother at 48? This woman must have been taking powerful fertility drugs.
No mention of Daddy. Why is he left out? Is he still passed out on the delivery room floor?

I am 47. The birth of six kids at my age would not be a cause of rejoicing. I've already been there, done that, and I'm too tired. I wish her luck. She's going to need it. And Geritol!

I was a NICU nurse for 12 years and I'd like to see a 26-weeker with "no health problems to speak of." Six kids at 48...God help her!

I agree-I also worked in NICU for many years, and to have one 26 weeker with no health problems was rare, let alone 6! And sometimes, the health problems would surface later-ie., infections, CP, bleeds, etc.

It's way too early to tell. She gave birth to these kids just hours ago. Let's hope everything's fine.

For those of us who haven't worked in NICU, L&D, or related fields, it's hard to comprehend just how small these babies are. I got a clue when I did some math. That's somewhere between 3450 - 4050g for 6 babies. My word... my son weighed 4300g at birth and my daughter close to 4100g. They were a little on the large side, granted, but to think that these 6 together weigh less than either one did...!!! I sure hope they are able to get them proper care.

I guess that even at only between 550g and 700g they are more than the mere clumps of cells that the pro-death lobby would have us believe.
