On Monday, April 29, 2002, Jim Quinn played the Air Traffic Controll tape from Cleveland Center, the ATC center controlling Flight 93 before it went down in PA. On the tape you can twice hear the voice of one of the hijackers before the aircraft disappeared off the scope.

Click on the link above and download the entire show, or right-click here and select "save link" [1.3mb file] to download and listen to just the tape.

All the money we give to Government.

This is the level of their ability to control and defend.

Who opened the flood gates?

C'mon. Tell us what it says. My emotions could not stand to hear the actual voices.

At the [provided] link you can download an MP3 audio file of a radio guy named Jim Quinn. It's maybe 10 minutes long. First you hear opening show music, opening remarks and then Quinn's explanation of what's to come.

Then the tape: air traffic controllers talking amongst themselves, confirming what the others hear. At two points, you can clearly hear the hijackers saying "we have a bomb on this plane" in heavily accented English. Other stuff hijackers say is unintelligible.

It is not graphic, except for the fact that we all know what is happening in these moments. Almost entirely conversation between controllers, and controllers trying in vain to get responses from the flight crew.

Remember, this is from the Air Traffic Control center in Cleveland -- NOT the cockpit. Near the end you hear the controllers stating to each other that the plane has turned east, then one of them sees black smoke... the tape stops there and Quinn fades into kind of a cheesy song about "he found some socks, she chose his tie, when he left for work that morning..."

But still, it made me cry.

It might be something to archive. Or not. I am not sure why I listened. Or how others may react. Your choice.

There is not much from Flight 93 itself. Most of the talk is between the traffic controller and other pilots in visual range of Flight 93. At the end of the tape the other pilots confirm seeing a puff of black smoke where the plane used to be.

This is clear evidence the Muslim hijackers DID have a belt bomb on the plane. The hijackers said this to the traffic controller. They also told the passengers on Flight 93 who relayed this to the ground in their phone calls. This tape confirms it - as observed by nearby pilots with no ax to grind.

This is the dark secret of Flight 93 that the government doesn't want you to know. That Islamic terrorists can carry bombs onto planes and current security measures can do nothing to prevent it. That the heros of Flight 93 were doomed because the hijackers blew up the plane - hand to hand combat, air marshalls, or even armed pilots cannot prevent planes from being blown out of the sky.

The shoe bomber and the plane explosion over Queens were follow-up examples of government impotence on this issue. They want you to be dumb and happy so you keep flying the friendly skies.

I doubt it. My parents have friends that live in the area where the plane hit. They are probably in their mid 60’s and retired. I really don’t think they would make up a story or embellish, but could be wrong.

The man said that he and his wife were unloading some things from his pickup. They were, at that time, unaware of everything that was going on in New York.

He said that they heard the plane and thought it was unusual because they usually don’t hear them that close. They looked up and saw it coming down from upper left to lower right from their position. He said the plane was coming in at about a 30 degree angle, that they were low in the air – probably less than 1,500 feet and a mile or so away, and that the plane was almost completely upside down.

His wife said the same thing. They told us that there was no fire, smoke, explosions or anything else – just a big plane low in the air coming down almost upside down. It disappeared behind trees/structures so they did not actually see the impact. They said impact occurred just a couple of seconds after they lost sight of it. They said that someone must have called it in because they heard sirens shortly after seeing the airplane.

They further claimed that the area that the plane crashed in was an open pit mine at one time. Over the last many years the area was allowed to “recover” and that if a plane had to crash, that was probably the perfect place for it as far as people on the ground were concerned. Supposedly it is a big empty area with no structures or people in the immediate area.

I suppose they could have still detonated something immediately before impact, but they sure waited a long time to do it, IMO. Anyway, that’s the story as I heard it…

We have driven almost everywhere since TWA 800. We were in Ireland on 9/11, however, and it was white knuckle all the way home. Especially when the pilot waid that we'd be another hour before take off because the bag and passenger count did not match.

Back to driving: when you take out the time spent waiting at the airport, waiting between flights, and waiting for our baggage, it's not so bad. We have a big, comfortable sedan; and we've driven coast to coast several times in the last 4 years. We get excellent gas mileage, and we arrive without catching any weird upper respiratory illnesses (something we are always plagued with on flights.) It's not a bad way to travel.

Living in the heartland means we are eqidistant from just about everything.

Clear evidence ? The only clear evidence is that the hihjackers said they had a bomb. Think about it. Do you really think they could have taken control of the passengers or the crew by yelling box cutter on board ?

"..current security measures..." were not in effect on Sept 11th. I don't think anyone, the govenrment included, believes air travel is absolutely safe but neither is your car. The new security programs may not be perfect but at least it is an improvement and more will follow. One thing is certain, no matter what is done someone such as yourself will criticize it. So if you don't think enough has been done, if the new proceedures fall short of your expectations then you develope a better one. Until then you'll probably be happier staying on the ground.

Please listen to the tape. At the end (before the song) a female pilot(?) asks if anyone sees anything unusual where they have been observing Flight 93. One, or possibly two, male pilots then confirm that they see a cloud or puff of dark smoke where the plane was. That's up in the air, not after the plane crashed. What else would cause a puff of smoke where the plane was, except an explosion of some kind.

The hijackers took over the plane with boxcutters by holding women hostage or cutting their throats. They insured everyone would die by having a bomb strapped to one of their bodies. It's how you control a plane full of people with only five hijackers.

You're shocked they would have a bomb? This is how these thugs operate. Look at the shoe bomber. Look at Arafat's buddies.

The government doesn't want you to know this, because, while they can screen for boxcutters and nail files, they still cannot screen for explosives. We are no better off now than on Sept. 10 in that regard.

See this thread.

Judging from the author's comments, I think we can assume the plane didn't explode in the air, either.

Sorry, I've listened to the tape several times, just listened to it again. The female voice sounds to me like that of an Air Traffic Controller and the pilot who confirmed a cloud or puff of dark smoke said he saw a puff or cloud of smoke. He didn't say anything about " a cloud or puff of dark smoke where the plane was". The smoke was no doubt caused by the explosion when the plane slammed into the ground creating that crater in Pennsylvania
"The hijackers took over the plane with boxcutters by holding women hostage or cutting their throats. They insured everyone would die by having a bomb strapped to one of their bodies. It's how you control a plane full of people with only five hijackers."

Yes, it is widely known the hijackers gained control of the aircraft by murdering female flight attendants. Undoubtedly their brutality momentarily stunned the other passengers. So, of course, they believed the hijackers when they screamed they had a bomb. That is how 5 maniacs controlled the passengers and crew. It doesn't mean they had one, why risk being detected trying to board with a bomb. They were boarding their bomb. They hadn't planned to blow up an aircraft they planned to fly the plane into the White House or the Capitol. The plane was the bomb in their plan. If all they wanted to do was blow up an American plane they didn't need 5 people or to murder women they just needed one crazy with a bomb. A bomb that you believe is as easy to carry onboard a plane now as it might have been on Sept 11.

I believe the government doesn't want us to know all the details about airport security but unlike you, I'm not convinced that is a bad thing. I don't believe everything the government has told us about several other air tragedies but I see no reason not to believe them about United flight #93. Travel is safer today than it was on Sept 11 but it still has room for improvement. If you don't feel safe, don't fly.
